Busy Busy Lola’s Cafe At Simon Road, Hougang Singapore

Lola’s Cafe is at Simon Road, Hougang area. It has a great location though not in town, as it is a stone’s throw from Kovan MRT station, very accessible for those rely on public transport.

It does not have any cushy armchairs or fanciful furniture. All it has are simple chairs and benches and some boxed-like seats.

It also has two cosy corners. One was taken by me when I was there.

And lots of small ornaments placed in strategic corners to make the cafe feel homey.

I like their menu. They have a wide range. They are serving breakfast items for brunch. Lots of variety for dinner; finger food for starters; stews, pastas, burgers, duck leg, for mains. And they have different beverages including beer and dessert. Wow!

I ordered a cappuccino and a lemon meringue tart. I like the lemon meringue tart. It has a great biscuit crust and a lovely tasting lemon curd. The lemon curd is sourish and it has a hint of bitter lemon taste, which added another nice fragrance to the tart and the sourish lemon curd is lastly balanced with the sweetish meringue. And it has some candied lemon zest. Oh my … it is so heavenly.

Comparatively, the coffee is not as great. It is only average. It has a medium to full body with medium aroma and acidity. It has a strong bittersweet chocolate taste and slight nutty hint and towards the last few sips, there is a slight sweetish spice flavour like some nutmeg. If I am not wrong, it should be Brazil coffee beans.

As I was enjoying my treat, I saw a bowl of crispy tasting truffle fries and a plate of deliciously looking chicken wings. I was so tempted to order them, will sure to return to try them. I think Lola’s Cafe serves great tasting food and decent coffee, plus it is at such a convenient location. All these explained why Lola’s Cafe attracts large crowd even on a weekday afternoon. I am sure to return for more. Lastly, almost forgotten to mention, I am impressed with the technology Lola’s cafe used. They have an automated reservation system. You will leave your name and contact number in the system, once that was done, you received a first sms notification and when the table is ready, you get another sms notification. Isn’t this impressive for a cafe? They have put technology to great use. Congratulations Lola’s Cafe.
