Keung Kee Dai Pai Dong In Sham Shui Po

We decided to dine at a dai pai dong one night and decided to dine at Keung Kee Dai Pai Dong (強記大排檔) at Sham Shui Po.

Dining at dai pai dong in Hong Kong is a unique Hong Kong culture. Dai pai dong is a stall setting up in an open space and you will be dining in an open space as well, but these days, you may find a shop floor next to the open space dinning area. And they usually open from early evening till few hours after midnight.

They provide a menu for your consideration but they do serve lots of other dishes that are not on the menu as well. It is almost like if you name it they have it. We ordered four dishes which are not found on the menu.

The first dish was some shellfish fried with fermented soya paste. We find it a little too salty, other than that the dish was fine. The shellfish was fresh and the fermented soya paste was great for the shellfish.

I like this dish best. The greens were still crispy and it was very sweet and what noteworthy is that the squid were still tender and soft.

The Steamed Chicken (沙彊雞) is good. The salt was added at a just right amount. There was a sauce provided for dipping. They find the sauce taste a little strange. I am the only exception who find it acceptable.

Lastly, it was a Stirred Fried Kang Kong with Prawn Paste. We like the prawn paste flavour. The vegetables was flavourful due to the prawn paste. Everyone of us agreed that it was a little too salty. But it went really well when eaten together with rice.

The service was fast and food though delish but was a little salty. I would suggest that you request for less salt to be added. Unless you like it briny.
