My friend was craving for Dim Sum, so I suggested DimDimSum (点点心) for dinner. The main reason was for its Instagram-worthy piggy custard bun.
We were there at about 8.30 pm and there were quite some unoccupied tables.
There were order chit on the table and you just need to thick or indicate the number of serving you want to order on the column next to the description. I don’t see any English Order Chit. Maybe they have, you can try asking.
It was delicious though nothing outstanding about the steamed rice with chicken feet and pork ribs.
My all time favourite, the BBQ Pork Bun. The bun bread was well kneaded, it was fluffy and soft. It did open up and the shape was lovely. The BBQ Pork filling was a little too salty and I would prefer if they could have a little more BBQ sauce in the bun.
After trying the Steamed Egg Cake from Tim Ho Wan, my friend was addicted. The Steamed Egg Cake from Dimdimsum though soft and fluffly, it didn’t have the fine smooth texture like Tim Ho Wan. Tim Ho Wan’s Steamed Egg Cake is still the best till now.
The Prawn Dumpling was pretty tasty. I have yet to find an exceptional well made Har Gao, what a shame.
One of my must order Dim Sum, the chicken feet. It was well marinated; the flavour has gotten into the skin of the chicken feet but I still find that it wasn’t soft enough.
We have tried quite some rice roll in Hong Kong by now. We felt that the texture of the rice roll was not fine enough though it was smooth. The rice roll was also a little too thick. We like the crispy prawn as the filling.
Next, the Spring Roll with prawn and thousand island sauce was delicious. We like the filling very much. But personally, I feel that the crispy skin was a little too thick.
… and finally, the key focus of the meal was my cute little piggy custard bun. The custard was semi-liquid so it was easy to manage. The custard has enough salted yolk so it was nice and it wasn’t too sweet.
When we were done at about 9.30 pm, there was a queue.
My last thought about Dim Dim Sum? It was above average though some dishes did not meet my expectation. It is at a accessible location so not a bad idea to patronise them when you are craving for Dim Sum.
