Old Hen Coffee Bar, Sleek Modern With A Vintage Hint

Old Hen Cafe is located at Rangoon Road which is about a stone thrown from the Farrer Park MRT station, extremely easy to locate.

The cafe has a sleek modern looking feel. As it has some vintage fans disassemble and used it as a lamp shade and this gave a vintage feel.

As it currently having a soft launch, it does not have much food.

My Coffee, Cappuccino
My Coffee, Cappuccino

I ordered a cappuccino and a Earl Grey Lavender Pound Cake. I like the Cappuccino. It was good. It has a pretty good balance of acidity and body with hint of fruity and slight spice flavour.

The Earl Grey Lavander Pound Cake was disappointing. It was very sweet and it didn’t have a good balance of Earl Grey and Lavender. Some part of the slice has more taste of Earl Grey while other none. These was the feedback I provided.

Carrot Cake

And so, they gave me a Carrot Cake to try. It was slightly better, not as sweet as the Earl Grey Lavender Pound Cake. The service crew warmed the carrot cake and when it was warmed I could taste the spice. It was a pity that the spice flavour was gone when the cake was cooled.

Cold Brew (White)
Cold Brew (White)

I saw lots of diners ordering the Cold Brew which came in either White or Black. I will try this the next time when I am back when they are in full launch.

Verdict? Maybe now is not the time, unless you are there for the coffee. Wait till they have their full launch, till there are more food selection. I think that’s a better option.
