Sun Kam Yuen Dai Pai Dong 新錦園大排檔, unlike most Dai Pai Dong, opened-air stall is located within the Tai Kok Tsui Food Market. It is indoor and has air-conditioned so diners need not worry about the rain.
It is located on the 2nd floor, two floors above the Ground Floor. We entered by the entrance facing the playground and we took the escalator.
They have lots of selection on the menu but the menu does not have a good classification. They simply list all the food.
When we reached the Dai Pai Dong, it was crowded, filled to the brim. But we saw an available table so we went ahead to take that.
We ordered a total of four dishes with the first, the stirred fried greens with cashew nuts and dried fish. The green was fresh, tender and sweet. With lots of cashew nuts and dried fish and some sweet preserved vegetables, these added lots of flavour to the dish. It was very delicious.
Followed by the Deep Fried Fillet. Two dips were provided. A spice salt and a vinegar. It tasted really good after dipping the fried fillet into either.
Next, we have the Braised Chicken with Pig Liver. I tried the pig liver first. Each slice was thinly sliced and it was not over-cooked at all. It was still so tender.
And our finale, the steamed scallop. It was delicious, fresh and we could taste the sweetness of the freshness.
Sum Kam Yuen Dai Pai Dong was extremely noisy and though smoking is not allowed, the diners smoked at their whims. We were sandwiched between two tables of smokers and my asthma just flared up and I coughed badly. So out of no choice, I just can’t continue with my dinner and I got to walk out and wait for the rest to finish their dinners. The lucky part was at least I tasted all the food before my limit was up. 😛
Final Verdict. The food was great but ambience nope.
