Finally, after such a long wait, there is a cafe, Arterial Cafe, in the heart of Chinatown. It took over the shop floor of Table 24. For those who have been there will remember the design. Arterial Cafe retained its original design of Table 24.
The design, what I remembered most for are the pots and bowls as the decoration on one side of the wall.
They have a really simple menu; the drink and the food menu. Food selection are simple with pasta, sandwiches, soup and some pastries (known as light bites). For drinks you can find the usual coffee with beans sourced from Liberty, tea and bottled drinks
I was there for breakfast on a rainy morning. I have my usual cappuccino and a croissant. Maybe due to the rain, their Chef was pretty late that day so I waited long for my croissant. But out of goodwill, they gave the croissant for free. The coffee was free too as they were having a promotion till 5 September.
The croissant was not as buttery as what you will usually be getting so it is healthier. It is a salty croissant instead of the usual sweet ones. So I suppose it will depend on your tastebud preference. They baked their croissant fresh in-house daily. It was still warm when it was served to me. The coffee was good, more than decent. It has a good aroma, medium to full body with low acidity. A little black tea hint, chocolaty and nutty taste.
I like the simple fare offered by Arterial though some may argue that they need to have some soul in the cafe or they are too safe. I certainly hope that this is just a start to the many more cafe coming to Chinatown.
