Don Antonio Italian Pizza Bar, A Humble Restaurant

Don Antonio Italian Pizza Bar offers more than just Pizza. It may be humble looking but the chef behind the restaurant whips up delicious home cook liked Italian food.

The interior of the restaurant is extremely simple with cemented floor and white-washed walls. The blue and white painted windows make the restaurant feel cosy. As the windows were opened, it let in the warm sunlight that glows the restaurant. And not forgetting the lady server, whom I suppose she is the lady owner who is friendly and very attentive even though she was entertaining her guests.

Besides the Ala Carte, there is also a lunch set menu that comes with two choices of main (a pizza and a pasta selection) and a drink. After browsing through the menu, click here to view, I decided that I go with Ala Carte and I ordered a Raviolacci and a Tiramisu.

My Main, Raviolacci
My Main, Raviolacci

The Raviolacci has an extremely simple presentation with only a few sage as the garnish. It doesn’t have any sauce except the oil (from the butter and the truffle oil). From these signs, I suppose the dish is going to taste plain. The first bite, my feel was the pasta of the ravioli was smooth and soft. It tasted like the pasta were very freshly made. The taste of the filling was subtle. After a few more bites when the flavour started to build-up and concentrated in the palate then I began to appreciate the dish. If you like something with strong flavour, you may want to skip this dish.

My Dessert, Tiramisu
My Dessert, Tiramisu

Whenever I see Tiramisu on the menu, I couldn’t resit them. The Tiramisu served in Don Antonio does not resemble the familiar looking Tiramisu that we usually see. It does not have the espresso and the alcohol in the sponge, instead it was drizzle with a yellow coloured custard like sauce. It is also this unique sauce that create the unique flavour of Don Antonio Tiramisu. I would encourage all to enjoy it with an open mind.

My experience with Don Antonio was more than pleasant. This humble Italian restaurant serves delicious subtle flavoured dishes in a quiet cosy restaurant with a simple setting together with attentive and warm service.
