Ngon, Vietnames Pho, At One Raffles Place

Ngon is one of the eatery found in the array of gourmet of the basement of One Raffles Place. Ngon offers mainly either Rice of Pho with some side dishes and some typical Vietnamese drinks.

Due to the recent grand opening, they are having set lunch which consists of a main, two tiny spring roll and a drink; coffee or tea. All you pay is the cost of the main dish plus $2. I grabbed at the opportunity.

Beef Slices (Medium) Pho
Beef Slices (Medium) Pho

My order was actually the Special that has Beef Slices and Beef Ball but the cashier made a mistake and entered it as the Beef Slices Pho. As a result, I couldn’t test their Beef Ball. The soup tasted natural and rich (not as light as most in the market), slightly meaty sweet. I believe it is either with no or minimum MSG. The rice noodle was very smooth. It is slightly thicker than those I have so far. The thinly sliced beef was uniform in thickness and it was tender with little fat. I like it. Instead of having green lemon, they provided lime instead so after adding it to the soup, I find it tasted a little different.

Spring Roll

The spring roll was pretty tasty, moist and crispy but it was a little over soaked in oil. Nothing worth mentioning about the tea.

Ngon serves pleasant food, I certainly think it could be better. As for whether it is authentic Vietnamese food, I am not certain. And as for ambience, not much per se though the cafe is nicely done. Like the many eatery in the area, the seats are placed so closely till you will get body contact easily even if you are petite, so not to mention those who are muscular big built. If you could, do a takeaway. I will do that at my next visit.
