Froth Cafe At The Big Hotel at Middle Road

Froth is a cafe located at the basement of a hotel known as Big Hotel. Once you entered through the entrance at Middle Road, there is a stairs leading to the basement and you can find the cafe on your left.

Interior
Interior

Basically, the design is based on industrial theme with strong characteristics coming from the cement wall, metal chairs, pipes and cage lamp. It doesn’t have the organised looked from the usual cafe, more of whims and fancy.

Menu
Menu

The selection of the menu is pretty extensive; ranging from Soups & Salads to Rice & Pasta, Sandwiches to Meat & Seafood to Desserts. And of course the standard coffee and tea and some other beverages.

Cheesy Lobster Sandwich
Cheesy Lobster Sandwich

I was in the mood for sandwich and so I ordered the Cheesy Lobster Sandwich. It came with fries, and that was awesome. The bread they used for the sandwich seems to be some Focaccia with a pretty generous  amount of lobster and a decent amount of cheese. The size of the sandwich wasn’t considerably big. The size of sandwich and fries ratio is about 1:1. Though the ingredient was certainly fresh but I find it a little bland.

Buttermilk Waffle with Earl Grey and Strawberry Ice Cream
Buttermilk Waffle with Earl Grey and Strawberry Ice Cream

I tried two of their recommended desserts, the waffle and Nutella Cheesecake. There are five types of waffles; Buttermilk, Red Velvet, Cheese, Taro and Banana. I actually find the Taro and Cheese interesting but I didn’t try these, instead went for something boring, the Buttermilk Waffle with Strawberry and Earl Grey Ice Cream.

The texture of the Buttermilk Waffle is more bread like with a salty hint. It doesn’t have a crispy outer edge like most waffle. I wouldn’t rate it the best but decent. I like the Earl Grey flavour in the ice cream, it was at the perfect level for me; not too choking or little. But the ice cream isn’t the creamy kind.

Nutella Cheesecake
Nutella Cheesecake

Between the waffle and Nutella Cheesecake, I prefer the latter. It tasted especially awesome when eaten together with the Hazelnut. Some may find it a little too sweet but acceptable for me.

Cappuccino
Cappuccino

Lastly, the coffee. A light body with low acidity and medium aroma, nutty and black tea hint.

The service was warm and friendly and the owner is chatty and extremely passionate about food and particularly coffee. I am keen to return to try more of their food, especially the Doritos Crust Winglets and Clam Soup Soba.

DamniSoft Soft Serve Ice Cream At Suntec City

After Honey Creme, DanmiSoft, from Korea, has also joined the bandwagon. It has currently setup a counter at the left corner of Coffeemin’s Suntec outlet, facing Gong Cha.

There are mixed reviews about DanmiSoft. Some say horrible; others say they prefer DanmiSoft to Honey Creme, while others say it is more valuable. I couldn’t help but to try it and find out for myself.

At DanmiSoft, the flavours available is pretty similar to Honey Creme, except you don’t find the Mixed Grains and Cone. All come in cups.

Honey Comb Soft Serve
Honey Comb Soft Serve

Now, my verdict?! When I saw the softserve, the first thought that came into my mind was why was it so yellowish and not white.  When I tasted it, I felt I was eating a sweet froyo. It has a texture which is kind of a little rough, like some fine icy crystals were in it. It was pretty sweet. (Comparatively with Honey Creme, yes, it was sweeter.) There was kinda some eggy flavour. (Yes, egg. Some will add eggs to especially froyo, sounded surprising but it is true.)

The cup seems a little bigger than Honey Creme. (But I didn’t measure the volume of the 2 cups so I am not certain. Lol!!)

And finally, the soft serve is priced lower than Honey Creme’s. (So, yes, it is more valuable.)

Next, there is no queue.

Final question, will I return? I still prefer my Softserve with smooth silky texture and slightly milky and not eggy. But as it is more valuable, I might go for it when I am in the area.

Le Halo At Bukit Ho Swee, Warm and Friendly Service

Le Halo, with a vintage plus a little whimsical theme, is the latest addition to this residential area, Bukit Ho Swee and it is on Sin Lee Foods‘ left.

I like the colours palette used for the furniture. Beside creating the whimsical feel, it also brighten up the ambience, giving me a very joyful feeling when I stepped foot into the cafe.

Immediately after I settled down, the service crew, whom is also the owner came forward to serve me a cup of water.

It has a pretty simple menu. A page devoted to All Breakfast items, another page for Pasta, Soup and Salad while the last page is for beverages. While I was browsing, once again, she came forward to introduce and at the same time recommend me the signature dishes. I was pretty impressed with such a service level.

The signature dishes were Piggy Stew and Meatball Pasta and Mushroom Carbonara. But I have neither, I decided to go with Otak Egg instead. This round, I decided to have tea instead of coffee as they were serving Nepresso coffee, something that I don’t prefer.

Otak Egg
Otak Egg

The Otak wasn’t very spicy, a little crispy on the outer edge. Personally, I find the ratio of Otak and toast were not proportionate. On a hindsight, I think it lacked of certain spice in the Otak too. I certainly like the runny egg yolk and the bed of vinaigrette Rocket Salad.

Once again, the highlight of my lunch was the dessert. I have the Soursop Sorbet, to cleanse the palate after the spicy food before I have my finale. On the sorbet, there were some finely grated lime peel that gave off a nice citrus peel fragrance. It was a perfect combination with the sweet-sourish Soursop Sorbet.

Finally, I have my creamy Durian ice cream which was filled with Durian goodness. The texture was certainly very smooth and creamy. It was certainly one of the best Durian ice cream.

Osmanthus Peach Oolong
Osmanthus Peach Oolong

As for the tea, I tried the Osmanthus Peach Oolong from Gryphon Tea Company.

I rarely find cafe owner so willing to even accepting negative feedback. I like her warm, friendly, sincere attitude. With such an impressive service, I am sure I will return, and it is going to be very soon. Moreover, Le Halo Cafe aims to change their menu every 6 months;  I certainly like the idea. This is surely another added reason for visiting them often.

I Want My Noodle At Shaw Centre Along Scotts Road

I Want My Noodle has a very cute Chinese name, 见面就笑. When it is literally translated into English, it means you smile when you see noodles.

Interior
Interior

An interior with much industrial theme which you can easily identify with the cement floor and some piping as decoration. The furniture aren’t fanciful, only some wooden tables and wooden chairs with metal pipe-like frame.

I Want My Noodle crafts fresh egg noodles daily and it offers only egg noodles. You won’t find any other types of noodles or rice in the restaurant. Other dishes on the menu are a salad, a meatball soup, desserts and drinks.

Order Chit
Order Chit

Once you have decided, take an order chit which can be found on every table; fill it and bring it to the cashier and made payment with only cash. And you will be served when your food is ready.

Lor Bah Noodle
Lor Bah Noodle

I ordered the Lor Bah Noodle, one of the popular item. The noodle is fragrant, soft with slight chewiness. It has some Lor gravy (the gravy that was used to cook the Lor Bah) mixed with the noodles and chilli as I asked for spicy and perhaps some other condiments were added too. The Lor Bah was soft and it almost melted in the mouth. Personally, I find it lacking in the Lor fragrance. The Lor didn’t penetrate into the entire piece of meat. The other popular items in I Want My Noodle are Double Roast and Aromatic Prawn Noodle.

Lemongrass Soda
Lemongrass Soda

Something I find it more interesting for drink was the Lemongrass Soda in I Want My Noodle. It was with lightly lemongrass scent and slightly sweet. It was perfect for me. And certainly refreshing

Sago Pudding
Sago Pudding

The best part of my meal was having the Sago Pudding. I was mesmerized by the goodness of the Gula Melaka. I finished every single drop of the Gula Melaka. Can I have more of the Gula Melaka the next time?! It was simply awesome.

No doubt about returning to I Want My Noodle, especially for the Gula Melaka on the Sago Pudding! And of course the noodles too.

Super Loco At The Quayside, Robertson Quay

Finally, I was at Super Loco, a restaurant serving Mexican Street Food so you could expect to find Tacos, Quesadillas and Tortilla. I went with my Mom and Brother for dinner one weekend since it allowed pets at their Al Fresco seating, this was  fantastic since as we could bring along our family pet, Cookies.

We started with some drinks and chips with Guacomole and Salsa. I have the Mango Jarritos drink, a Mango soda drink. It was pretty refreshing. The service crew recommended us a Strawberry with Cucumber slice drink and my mom was keen to try. It was filled strawberry flavour and lightly scented cucumber. While my brother has a boring Mango Juice.

Chips with Guacamole & Salsa
Chips with Guacamole & Salsa

We enjoyed the chips very much. Both the Salsa and Guacamole were absolutely awesome.

Etoles Corn
Etoles Corn

The Etoles Corn was one of the recommended item by the service crew. There was some sauce with some white dusting on the corn. This was in fact the highlight of our dinner. We never know that Corn could be this awesome.

Honey Glazed Pork Ribs
Honey Glazed Pork Ribs

The two other dishes that we ordered were Honey Glazed Pork Ribs and Quesadilas with Chicken. Both were good for sharing

The Honey Glazed Pork Ribs was slightly spicy and the best part was the meat was so tender. It could be removed by just using a fork. My brother didn’t enjoyed this dish as much as my mom and myself as he felt that the pork rib wasn’t as tasty as the sauce. It would be awesome if more of the marinate sauce could get into the ribs and it will definitely be more tasty.

Quesadillas with chicken
Quesadillas with chicken

Lastly, the Quesadillas. I chose chicken as we have a pork while my mom doesn’t consume beef. This dish is as awesome as the rest.

It was a pity that my brother, very conservative with his food, didn’t enjoy the meal as much as we do. At least my mom did. As for me, I am certain that I will return for other dishes that are on their menu.

The Daily Press At Toa Payoh

I was in anticipating since their facebook was up. It took them a pretty long time to start operation. I am not complaining. This may be a good thing so that they will be more prepared.

Interior
Interior

When I got to know that they have opened their door, I planned for a visit as soon as I can. For those who know Frozen By Thousand Blessing, it is at the same block.

The cafe has a vintage vibe due to the flooring with some industrial element that blended pretty well. It was a pity that there were a structural pillar that kind of hindrance for moving through the cafe.

Food Menu
Food Menu

Currently, they were serving only sandwiches for their soft launch. I certainly hope, they will have more variety when they officially open. Besides sandwiches, there are drinks and cakes too.

Babi Ponteh Sandwich fillings
Babi Ponteh Sandwich fillings

Their most popular items for now is the Korean “Fried” Chicken, but I was in the mood for pork so I went with Babi Ponteh. It was a sandwich filled with slice Pork Belly well cooked in dark sauce and some spice. The Pork Belly was nicely scented with the sauce. There was a bed of lightly preserved prickles of shredded carrot and cucumber with some chopped chilli and a leaf of lettuce together with the slice Pork Belly were on Ciabatta. Personally, though I felt a little disgusted by the thick layer of fat, it was simply delish.

Cappuccino
Cappuccino

For the coffee, I would say it was decent, medium to full body, medium to low acidity with some bitter dark cocoa and somewhat nutty taste note. And perhaps with a little dark berries too.

The sandwich I have was certainly fantastic and I am impressed. I am keen to return to try their House-Cured Salmon and the popular Korean “Fried” Chicken. Nevertheless, I hope The Daily Press could have a little more food on their menu when they officially launched their cafe.

Bunny and Pony Ice Parlour At Changi Village

Changi Village, such an ulu place (I mean inaccessible, and at far end of Singapore) is also welcoming a growing number of cafe. The first to make waves was Chock Full of Beans. Now, there are a total of 3 ice cream parlours in the vicinity.

At the trip, when I was there specially to try out A Spoonful of Sugar, I spotted Bunny and Pony. So made a trip back to Changi Village specially to try, as usual, I couldn’t resist the charm of ice cream.

Counter
Counter

l like the vibes of the cafe. It feels homely and cosy, I suppose it was the wooden furniture, the rocking horses, the christmas tree and two cushy sofa that were in place bring such a feel to the ambience.

As all ice cream parlour, they have a similar menu. Ice Cream, waffes cakes and drink. No exception for Bunny and Pony.

Waffles with Cappuccino and Coconut Chendol Ice Cream
Waffles with Cappuccino and Coconut Chendol Ice Cream

This round, my waffle is with Cappuccino and Coconut Chendol. I must say, the scoop of ice cream is much smaller than most. I was much disappointed. It is neither cheaper too. With such a price, I was hoping that the waffle does not disappoint me. And I was glad, it was fabulous, egg in taste, crispy outer edge and soft centre and it wasn’t too airy as well. Both the ice cream were lighter in taste too and not the creamy kind.

Final verdict! Awesome waffles, decent ice cream and cosy, homely environment. I will return if I am in the area.
