Sacha & Sons Delicatessen At Mandarin Gallery

Sacha & Sons Delicatessen at Mandarin Gallery are by the people behind The Wild Honey; converted the former Wild Honey all day breakfast at Mandarin Gallery to a New York Deli.

The layout is pretty much the same as the former Wild Honey, but the feel of the cafe now is totally different. A bit of New York deli element and feel exist in the cafe.

I enquired with the crew on what’s their signature and was informed that they specialises in sandwiches, especially the Reuben Sandwich and Bagel. Besides the sandwiches and Bagels, they offered some Toast, Knishes and Latkes, desserts and cakes too. Quite a nice variety. The salmon were cured in house. Soup is also served in Sacha & Son. I noted something unusual, Matzo MeatBall Soup and I asked what it was and the service crew told me that it wasn’t made of meat but of Matzo Crackers. Sounded interesting for me to try on some other visit.

I went with the Sacha’s Reuben Sandwich choice and it turned out to be fantastic.

In the Sacha’s Reuben Sandwich, you will find slice of pastrami (a must have), cheese and sauerkraut with pickled cucumber and coleslaw by the side. I didn’t enjoy both the pickled and coleslaw. It is the sandwich, particularly the roast beef that was absolutely awesome. It was tender, slight peppery and well roasted. With the combination of sauerkraut and cheese together with the bread, brought the sandwich to its best. By the way, there are two types of Reuben Sandwich, if you are looking for the one with Pastrami, you need to ask for Sacha’s Reuben. The other is the Classic Reuben with corn beef instead.

I am always attracted to Bagel somehow. I chose Bagel with Cured Gravlax. I was wondering what’s the different between Cured Gravlax and Smoked Salmon. Basically, it was the preparing method and of course the taste would be different as well. The Cured resulted in a sweetish, sourish and softer texture of the Salmon while the Smoked is briny and with a firmer texture. I quite like the Cured Gravlax. If you like sweet & sour, you probably like this.

For Beverage, I was recommended to have their house made soda. But I was thinking of coffee instead. There isn’t the espresso coffee such as Cappuccino, Latte or Flat White to choose from, all they have is brewed Common Man Single Origin and so I will have that with milk. It was decent, medium to high in acidity, medium body. Oh ya, and comes with free re-fill.

Other beverages option was tea, they were using Gyphon Tea.

I am looking forward to my next visit, to try more of their food.
