Koji Sushi Bar 米花 At Far East Square

Koji Sushi Bar (米花 ) is at Far East Square. It is located along the stretch of eateries and restaurants known as Nankin Row.

Basically, in Koji, you will find Donburi and Sushi only and an additional Omakase for Dinner which you have to make reservation by 3pm on the same day. You will also find some sides and drinks handwritten on a wall inside the restaurant.

There are only Bar seats in the restaurants. It is pretty squeeze when diners start to occupy the row. I think the “Al Fresco” Seats with high tables may be a better option, provided you don’t mind the heat.

There are a total of four Sushi sets for selection and I have Set C. Each set of Sushi comes with either a Salad or a Soup. I chose the Salad. It was a pretty appetizing salad due to the dressing.

In Set C, there are 5 pieces of Sushi, each piece of Sushi has an oversize fish with a tiny portion of rice. If you need more rice, you need to inform when ordering.

Instead of dipping the Sushi into the Soy Sauce, you will brush the sauce onto the sashimi instead. This is a good method as you could avoid getting the Soy Sauce onto your rice. But I think people who have allergy to some ingredients such as prawns might want to ask for some Soy Sauce dispense right from the original bottle.

Another item on the menu that I tried was the Sashimi Rice Bowl. An optional Uni is available too. And you can choose either White Rice, or Brown Rice for an additional dollar for its Donburi. The Donburi is served with both Salad and Soup

The Sashmi Rice Bowl has quite a heap of Sashimi chucks and interestingly there are some tempura bites providing some crunch. It has a similar taste to the one served at Hana Hana / Teppei. Unfortunately, I find the Sashimi was not well cut, there are some part of the fish that was not chewable at all. And the rice was a little too soft.

I saw on the board that there was Onsen Tamago. I like eggs and the Restaruant Manager mentioned it is the soft egg. I couldn’t hide my temptation and I ordered one. In fact, I was a little disappointed with the egg. It tasted like the Soft Boiled Egg served at Kopitiam.

I like the Matcha Latte. You will add the amount of syrup you wanted. It has a good Matcha flavour and a balanced creaminess.

I saw a drink which I have never tried before, the Calpis Soda and wondered what it was. And it turned out to be a Yoghurt drink. It was certainly refreshing.

When I return to Koji Sushi Bar, I would order only the Sushi as I like the ratio of fish versus rice. I may try the Donburi again to see if it is only an one-off case for the soft rice. Otherwise, I would avoid totally.
