Chicken Legend (传奇叶子鸡) At Upper East Coast Road

When I saw the name “Chicken Legend” from the email invite sent by the owner Jasper, a young entrepreneur, I thought it was a Fast Food Restaurant specialises in Fried or Grilled Chicken meal. But it turned out to be offering a new concept of Steamed Boat, Coconut Water Steamboat. This is a first in Singapore. I was elated with this idea as I always like trying new things. And so I accepted the invitation and went down for the degustation with a friend.

Chicken Legend offers various steamboat set which is good for two. There are Chicken, Seafood and Meat Set catering to different preferences. You might also notice a Small Set in the menu, this is suitable for the small appetites, especially when the meal is shared by 2 ladies.

If you like more ingredients in your steamboat, you could always add on individual ingredients or go for the combo as an alternative.

At Chicken Legend, they uses Kampong Chicken and Shabu Shabu Meat. The specialty in Chicken Legend is Kampong Chicken with 100% Coconut Water Broth so I would strongly recommend that you should get a Chicken or Small Set for a start with 100% Coconut Water as broth.

Coconut Water
Coconut Water

When I saw the broth, so light, to the extend of colourless. The look is as good as tap water, I was rather skeptical about how good it will turn out. It turned out to be amazing, with just simply coconut water and a pinch of salt, no additional sugar or MSG. Wow!! Looks can be deceiving at many times.

Small Set

Since I went with a girlfriend, we have the Small Set, there were Kampong Chicken, Prawns, Golden Mushroom, Mushroom Balls, Corn and some Chinese Cabbages. As we were so hungry, we have an additional add-on of the Meat Combo. In it, there were Beef and Pork Shabu Shabu Meat and Luncheon Meat and Hotdog.

In case you have a stronger palate and would love some dips for the meat, Chicken Legend also offers some Homemade Soy Sauce dip with lime and garlic and chilli padi for the spice lover. We were advise to squeeze in one lime to the soy sauce and add the preferred amount of chilli padi and chopped garlic into it. I like the dip, it was so refreshing and most importantly appetising.

We added all the ingredients into the Coconut Water broth and was advised to leave the prawns aside first. The result of the Steamboat was a sweet sweet Vegetable Chicken Soup. I was taken aback by the outcome.

Towards the end of our meal, when the prawns were added, the soup was transformed into another awesome flavour. You need to try it. And to complete the meal, we have some Glass Noodles (Dong Fen). The other options available are Rice and Mee Hoon. My friend and I enjoyed the meal and it was certainly filling.

Chicken Legend have options of different percentage of Coconut juice for the broth too, in case you prefer a stronger Chicken Soup Base.

In a nutshell, though I am not a Steamboat fan, I enjoyed the food. And without doubt, my friend did as well. We will certainly return to savour Chicken Legend’s Coconut Steamboat again.

One Dollar Thai Boat Noodle At Bedok Point

The One Dollar Thai Boat Noodle has now arrived at Singapore, Bedok Point and has recently made splash with a man eating 37 bowls of the noodle. I was invited to the media tasting by Thai Boat Noodle.

Counter

The Thai noodle restaurant is located at the center of second level whipping up some delicious authentic Thai Boat Noodle.

Tom Yum Fried Rice
Tom Yum Fried Rice

We were served the Tom Yum Fried Rice as the first dish. The fried rice has a nice Tom Yum Flavour; hot, spicy and sourish. Pretty Shiok but I would prefer if the rice is more grainy.

Crispy Chicken Skin
Crispy Chicken Skin

Next, the Crispy Chicken Skin. It was absolutely crispy. And you must not missed out on the homemade chilli sauce made with their secret recipe. This certainly made good snack with beer.

Now, we reached the climax of the meal, the $1 Thai Boat Noodle. There are two versions, soup and dry. Each mini bowl of noodle, about a mouthful comes with a pork ball and a pork slice. The soup has a good porky flavour which the ladies seated around the table didn’t really fancy. We enjoyed the dry one. The dry version has three different type of homemade sauces with the peanuts added, provided a more flavourful note to the dish.

The other two versions of Noodle at $1.50 was the Tom Yum flavour and the Sour and Spicy flavour. As both were sourish and spicy, these captivated the heart of the ladies.

Condiments

There are various condiments on the table too for you to add to your dishes.

Bowl Stacking
Bowl Stacking

Apparently, the way to go about eating the Thai Boat Noodle is to eat as many bowls as you can and stack the bowls like the one in the photo. And currently, they are running the Boat Noodle Eating Challenge. The winner will walk away an iPhone 6. They will be picking a diner who eats the most bowl each week for the final. Drop by for the challenge.

Thai Pandan Jelly With Coconut Milk
Thai Pandan Jelly With Coconut Milk

The last dish of the day was the Thai Pandan Jelly With Coconut Milk. I enjoyed this dish to the max. As I find it has a perfect balance of coconut, sweetness and crunch of water chestnut. One is definitely not enough.

Iced Thai Milk Tea
Iced Thai Milk Tea

The first drink served at the event was the well known Iced Thai Milk Tea. It has a subtle Thai Tea fragrance. This has the perfect sweetness level for me and a good balance of milky aroma. If it has been a little more stronger with the tea taste, it would have been perfect for me.

Iced Lemongrass Drink
Iced Lemongrass Drink

The Iced Lemongrass drink has a very mild lemongrass flavour. This is good for people who doesn’t like it strong.

Our table missed out on the last drink, Iced Rosella Tea as we weren’t served, so it was a little pity that we didn’t get to savour it. We only noticed when it was time to leave, otherwise, I would have asked for it 😛 Anyway …

Thai Fruity Yellow Bean Paste
Thai Fruity Yellow Bean Paste

We were each given a nice box of colourful Thai Fruity Yellow Bean Paste. Each were shaped into a fruit, that looks so much like the really one. I wanted to share the delicacy with my family so I decided to bring home to share.

It was certainly a night of great company with good food.

FFL Fresh Fruits Lab At Changi Road

FFL Fresh Fruit Lab has a laboratory theme as its cafe design, just like The Lab at Jalan Pisang.  I always enjoy laboratory though I no longer in such an environment, missed those days.

Set Lunch Menu
Set Lunch Menu

I went to FFL with my aunt for lunch on a weekday. In FFL, there are Set Lunch served during the weekday. Alternatively, we can go for the Ala Carte menu. Very soon, we decided, maybe that was because we were hungry. Lol!!

We ordered a lunch set as it was value for money and some items off the Ala Carte.

Aloe Vera Salad
Aloe Vera Salad

The Aloe Vera Salad was part of the set lunch. It was extremely refreshing. We enjoyed it very much.

Grilled Chicken Thigh with pencil asparagus, quinoa and tangy mustard sauce
Grilled Chicken Thigh with pencil asparagus, quinoa and tangy mustard sauce

There were two choices for Main, Chicken or Fish. We chose the Grilled Chicken Thigh with pencil asparagus, quinoa and tangy mustard sauce. This delish was surprising awesome. I was glad that they used Chicken Thigh and not Breast meat. The chicken was tender and very tasty.

Beer Shroom
Beer Shroom

Two items that we ordered from the Ala Carte Menu were the Beer Shroom and Caesar Salad with Smoked Salmon (or chicken). The Beer Shroom has a lovely Beer fragrance from the batter but it was too oily. The batter was practically soaked with oil.

Caesar Salad with Smoked Salmon
Caesar Salad with Smoked Salmon

While the Caesar Salmon, though delish, it was a pretty normal salad that we usually will be getting from other cafe. In other words, nothing special.

Passionfruit Soda
Passionfruit Soda

I have a Passionfruit Soda while my aunt has a coffee. I relished the tangy refreshing drink. You could customize the sweetness to your liking as they provided some passionafruit syrup by the side. Look at the container, they served these in lab apparatus.

Sorbet Drinks: Cucumber (left), Watermelon
Sorbet Drinks: Cucumber (left), Watermelon

At the end of the meal, FFL serves each diner a test tube of sorbet drink for cleansing the palate. It was very sweet of them. There are Cucumber and Watermelon.

I like the ambience of FFL and food was delish too. This will be an alternative when I am visiting my aunt.

Bunny and Pony Ice Parlour At Changi Village

Changi Village, such an ulu place (I mean inaccessible, and at far end of Singapore) is also welcoming a growing number of cafe. The first to make waves was Chock Full of Beans. Now, there are a total of 3 ice cream parlours in the vicinity.

At the trip, when I was there specially to try out A Spoonful of Sugar, I spotted Bunny and Pony. So made a trip back to Changi Village specially to try, as usual, I couldn’t resist the charm of ice cream.

Counter
Counter

l like the vibes of the cafe. It feels homely and cosy, I suppose it was the wooden furniture, the rocking horses, the christmas tree and two cushy sofa that were in place bring such a feel to the ambience.

As all ice cream parlour, they have a similar menu. Ice Cream, waffes cakes and drink. No exception for Bunny and Pony.

Waffles with Cappuccino and Coconut Chendol Ice Cream
Waffles with Cappuccino and Coconut Chendol Ice Cream

This round, my waffle is with Cappuccino and Coconut Chendol. I must say, the scoop of ice cream is much smaller than most. I was much disappointed. It is neither cheaper too. With such a price, I was hoping that the waffle does not disappoint me. And I was glad, it was fabulous, egg in taste, crispy outer edge and soft centre and it wasn’t too airy as well. Both the ice cream were lighter in taste too and not the creamy kind.

Final verdict! Awesome waffles, decent ice cream and cosy, homely environment. I will return if I am in the area.

Collective Brewers At Changi Road

Along Changi Road after Fresh Fruit Lab, it has Collective Brewers. Personally I feel that it is a welcome addition as it provide a place for good coffee and some pastries. I always have challenge looking for a cafe when I am in that area.

Bar Counter
Bar Counter

What I like about the cafe is the big empty space in the centre. Unlike most cafe, they will try to place as much tables as they could within the space. I like the space, pretty cosy and good for catching up with friends as it wasn’t noisy at all.

Cakes Display Counter

Collective Brewers serve mainly good coffee and simple cakes and pastries.

Menu

The coffee are mainly black, white (small or regular), two types of filter coffee, either V60 paper filter or metal filter and chocolate drink.

Our Order, Cappuccino, V60 Filtered Coffee and Earl Grey Lemon Cake

I was there with my aunt on a rainy weekday. On such a day, it was best for a cup of hot drink. As usual, I have my cappuccino while my aunt wanted black coffee chose V60 paper filter coffee. And we also ordered a slice of Earl Grey Lemon Cake for sharing.

The coffee served in Collective Brewers is medium in acidity and round body with berries and some sort tomato hint.

I hope Collective Brewers could have some beans with low acidity. Nevertheless, I am certain that I will be back again when I need some coffee when in that area.

A Spoonful Of Sugar At Changi Village

Some of you who know about the song “A Spoonful of Sugar” may associate it with Mary Poppins, but here I am referring to an whimsical ice cream parlour at Changi Village, a few doors away from Chock Full of Beans.

Interior with the Counter
Interior with the Counter

lts interior is with bright green chairs and bright yellow table tops. And I love the lights with ice cream cones and teddy bears in parachute. The decoration is very cute.

Menu
Menu

It has the typical ice cream parlour menu. Beside ice cream, there are drinks, waffles and cakes.

Ice Cream Flavours Available

l am there for the ice cream and waffles. As usual, after trying a few flavours, I went for Chendol and Earl Grey and waffle.

Waffle with Chendol and Earl Grey Ice Cream
Waffle with Chendol and Earl Grey Ice Cream

The waffle served in A Spoonful of Sugar is extremely crispy. If you like the crispy verson, this is a must have. The Chendol tasted a little more like corn ice cream as it is lacking of gula melaka flavour, while the Earl Grey has a nice flavour of Earl Grey.

In summary, the ice cream is lightly scented and less creamy. It is definitely good for people who don’t like rich ice cream. The best part, it is only slightly sweetish.

The “You Rock My Oats” Oats Cookies was out of stock. We tried four of the flavours, we like all except the Nuts N Maple.  We did not try the Rouge.

We got “Chip Rockin On!”, a Hershey Chocolate Chips Cookies and “Nutter Butter”, Chocolate Dough Cookies with Reeses Peanut Butter Chips. These cookies are so addictive. One you started, you could only stop when the whole pack is gone.
