Super Loco At The Quayside, Robertson Quay

Finally, I was at Super Loco, a restaurant serving Mexican Street Food so you could expect to find Tacos, Quesadillas and Tortilla. I went with my Mom and Brother for dinner one weekend since it allowed pets at their Al Fresco seating, this was  fantastic since as we could bring along our family pet, Cookies.

We started with some drinks and chips with Guacomole and Salsa. I have the Mango Jarritos drink, a Mango soda drink. It was pretty refreshing. The service crew recommended us a Strawberry with Cucumber slice drink and my mom was keen to try. It was filled strawberry flavour and lightly scented cucumber. While my brother has a boring Mango Juice.

Chips with Guacamole & Salsa
Chips with Guacamole & Salsa

We enjoyed the chips very much. Both the Salsa and Guacamole were absolutely awesome.

Etoles Corn
Etoles Corn

The Etoles Corn was one of the recommended item by the service crew. There was some sauce with some white dusting on the corn. This was in fact the highlight of our dinner. We never know that Corn could be this awesome.

Honey Glazed Pork Ribs
Honey Glazed Pork Ribs

The two other dishes that we ordered were Honey Glazed Pork Ribs and Quesadilas with Chicken. Both were good for sharing

The Honey Glazed Pork Ribs was slightly spicy and the best part was the meat was so tender. It could be removed by just using a fork. My brother didn’t enjoyed this dish as much as my mom and myself as he felt that the pork rib wasn’t as tasty as the sauce. It would be awesome if more of the marinate sauce could get into the ribs and it will definitely be more tasty.

Quesadillas with chicken
Quesadillas with chicken

Lastly, the Quesadillas. I chose chicken as we have a pork while my mom doesn’t consume beef. This dish is as awesome as the rest.

It was a pity that my brother, very conservative with his food, didn’t enjoy the meal as much as we do. At least my mom did. As for me, I am certain that I will return for other dishes that are on their menu.

Five and Dime Eatery At River Valley Road

Five and Dime Eatery has been around at River Valley Road for quite some time and though it is pretty near me, I never visited so far. Recently, I have been seeing the Instagram worthy Golden Custard Molten Lava Cake and that prompted me the visit as I like Chocolate Molten Lava Cake a lot. And so I popped over with my bro.

Golden Custard Molten Lava Cake
Golden Custard Molten Lava Cake

Look at the flowy Golden Custard, full of Salted Egg Yolks Goodness. And there are bittersweet dark chocolate in the Molten Lava Cake too. As the chocolate molten lava is denser, you don’t get to see it when you break the cake at first, till much later if you wait long enough. I missing the Lava Cake now as I was writing the post. The chocolate is really very awesome. Certainly the best Lava Cake.

Spicy Miso Wings
Spicy Miso Wings

We ordered Spicy Miso Wings too. It was as good. On the glance, I thought it was braised but it wasn’t. It was deep fried and coated with a good layer of Spicy Miso Sauce. I like it very much. My brother felt it tasted wierd at first due to the Miso but subsequently he enjoyed it once he got over the Miso taste. He finished the entire plate after I have my 2 drumlets.

Matcha Latte
Matcha Latte

I ordered a Matcha Latte instead of coffee as I already of 2 cups earlier in the day. The Matcha Latte has a good balance of green tea and milk but it was a little far too sweet for me. So I must remember to ask for less sweet on my next order.

Chocolate Milk Shake
Chocolate Milk Shake

My brother too, didn’t go for his usual Flat White but Chocolate Milkshake. He was excited to spot this on the menu. I thought he would go for Strawberry Milkshake as he loves all things Strawberry. I was a little surprise though. I tried coaxing him into having the Strawberry one. Lol. Anyway, he enjoyed the drink, he found it pretty chocolaty.

I would certainly go back for especially the Golden Custard Molten Lava Cake. I want more of it now!!

The New Black, Offerring A New Coffee Experience At Upper Circular Road

A very cool cafe has appeared at Upper Circular Road, The New Black.

This cafe has a different concept from what is available now. Their objective is to provide different coffee beans for the patron to use from. They also intend to change the menu every 3 – 4 months. Besides the usual Espresso based coffee, they have various brewing method too. Another cool fact about The New Black is they are totally Cashless. You pay by cards. I like it.

One of the goal is to bring the concept by setting up coffee counters at the office lobby so that the office workers could get hold of a cuppa easily. I certainly hope they will set up one around my office.

Interior
Interior

The New Black offers mainly drinks. Beside the coffee that they offer, there are also various tea.

The interior is really simple. You don’t find the usual tables and chairs but only some platform for the patrons to sit.

So how does it works, first of all, decide what type of bean you would like. There are two categories, beans for espresso or beans for brewed coffee. Next whether to have it with Milk. If with milk, let the Barista know what’s your preference, Latte, Flat White or Cappuccino.

Espresso, Cult of Done Version
Espresso, Cult of Done Version

I have ordered the Cult with Done Version, the most expensive on the menu so I decide to have it straight, that is to have it as an Espresso.

The coffee was medium to low acidity with medium body. The flavour note was extremely fruity with raisins and I find lots of citrus notes too. And there’s also the taste of chocolaty and a little toffee. And the sweetness of the coffee lingers over the palate for quite a long time. The texture is smooth, easy on the palate too.

A nice coffee concept as they have more than a type of beans for customers to choose from. And what’s best? We have a chance to try beans from worldwide without travelling.

Cafe Ma Maison, A Japanese Cake Shop

Cafe Ma Maison is now at Liang Court, previously at Millenia Walk. It is now so much nearer to me.

Shop
Shop

It is a shop that does various kinds of fruit tart, it is similiar to Fruit Paradise.

My Takeaway, Strawberry Tart and Banana Caramel Tart
My Takeaway, Strawberry Tart and Banana Caramel Tart

As I has a carving for sweet stuff so I decided to drop by Liang Court and pick up some tarts home. I have a Strawberry Tart and a Banana Caramel Tart. Both my mom and I, we like the Strawberry Tart. The tart based was cake-like, together with a very thin layer of custard between the fruits and the tart based layer make the entire tart delish.

The Banana Caramel Tart has a very thin crispy tart based with a thick layer of caramel cream and a layer of slice banana. And a huge ball of whipped cream with some caramel drizzle. I find this tart a little overwhelming as it was cream rich.

It’s a little misleading from the name of the cake shop. After all, now, it is only a takeaway counter with no seats for dine-in option. The tart though delicious but I find it a little too pricey. But surely, to indulge once in awhile, surely is fine.

Soi 60 Thai Restaurant At Roberston Quay

Since the first time I passed by Soi 60 when we walked the dog at Robertson Quay, I have wanted to try them out. I finally asked a friend to join me for dinner at Soi 60.

Interior
Interior

This Thai restaurant has very much hipster vibes and it looks very much more like a drinking bar than the usual Thai restaurant.

The menu was not as extensive as what we see in Thai restaurant. It has a more focus and specialise selection I suppose.

Starters, Betel Leaves
Starters, Betel Leaves

We started with the Betel Leaves. It has picked crab with caramelised coconut. We tried eating only the crab meat first but I find it a little to salty while my friend find it a little fishy. When it was eaten together with the Betel Leaf, somehow, the subtle betel leaf fragrance together with the crab gave a refreshing effect.

Crispy Snappers
Crispy Snappers

There were several items on the Chef Nam’s Special and we decided to try the Crispy Snapper which consist of a whole snapper with three flavour sauce. The snapper was fresh and the best part was it was de-boned. We couldn’t really taste three flavour from the sauce. It was simply a sweet and sour tomato based sauce.

Green Curry with Chicken
Green Curry with Chicken

How could we not have curry when having Thai food? We have a Green Curry with Chicken. If you prefer, you can opt for Tofu instead. It came with a Chicken Drumstick. The green curry was spicy enough with a good fragrance of spice but I find it a little too sweet, I suppose due to the additional coconut milk drizzled on the top as a garnish. I would prefer no additional coconut milk drizzled.

Dessert, Tapioca
Dessert, Tapioca

Lastly, to end our meal, as always, desserts is very much appreciated. We wanted to have both the sticky rice and the Tapioca but we were quite full by now so we ordered only the Tapioca, thinking that the sticky rice would be a little too much. When we were served the cup of dessert shown above, we were puzzled. As we were looking for our Tapioca. Though tapioca was missing, it was a refreshing delicious tasting dessert. It was made up of Lychee, pineapple diced and sago with some coconut milk.

Soi 60 serve pretty authentic delicious Thai food with a modern hipster setting. A nice restaurant to gather with some family and friends over a meal.
