Nookie Yogurt At Selegie POMO

After the success of Montana Brew Bar, a waffle cafe, the brains behind this cafe immediately followed with Nookie Yogurt. I suppose they are striking the iron while it is hot. And interestingly, Nookie Yogurt and Montana Brew Bar are situated back to back.

Like the many cafe that are making storm on Instagram, they started by inviting famous Instagrammers and bloggers to food tasting.

Attitude Yogurt in the making
Attitude Yogurt in the making

Since their opening, they have been seeking feedback and improving their products and currently there are a total of 6 flavours.
1. Matcha Black Sesame Crumble
2. Mango Sticky Ricke
3. Strawberry Watermelon Rose
4. Salted Caramel Banana
5. Chocolate Caramel Fudge
6. Apple Berry Pie
But I am not sure if these flavours are here to stay.

Strawberry Watermelon Rose
Strawberry Watermelon Rose

The first I tried was the Strawberry Watermelon Rose. I find this flavour very original. The Rose flavour blended very well with both the Strawberry and Watermelon. I like this best, so far.

Apple Pie
Apple Pie

The next I tried was the Apple Pie. The yogurt was filled with Apple cubes and apple sauce with blueberry toppings and some crumbles. It tasted very much like an Apple Pie with Yogurt. This is second on my fave list.

Matcha Black Sesame Crumble
Matcha Black Sesame Crumble

The third I tried was a relatively new flavour, the Matcha Black Sesame Crumble. In it, beside the Matcha sauce and the black sesame crumble, there were watermelon and kiwi. I find that there were too many fruits and too little yogurt in this creation. In addition, both the green tea and black sesame flavours were too weak. I could not taste much of these flavours. I didn’t like it as much compared with the former.

In general, their yogurt is a little sourish, but not as sour as the Ilao Ilao. Neither it is very creamy, not as creamy as The Cold Pantry‘s original yogurt. So personally, I find Nookie Yogurt lacks of characteristic as it is a little over balanced. The consolation is that the various interesting flavours of the sauce make up for this weakness. Moreover, most of the time, with the flavour masking the yogurt, most would have neglected the taste of the frozen yogurt itself and it would become secondary as the focus would have been shifted towards the flavours instead.

As I prefer a really good solid yogurt over the flavours, I still find the best original frozen yogurt remains with The Cold Pantry. It is the interesting flavours and the pretty looking creation at Nookie Yogurt that attracts.

Milkcow Soft Serve At Cathay Cineplex

After Honey Creme created a splash, Milkcow has followed closely and arrived at Singapore, occupying a shop at the ground floor of Cathay Cineplex, Dhoby Ghaut.

Interior
Interior

The interior is mainly white.

Menu
Menu

Milkcow offers quite a selection of flavours for the soft serve. There are some very interesting flavours such as Red Ginseng, Giandula Syrup and Pistachio Syrup. Of course, you will find some similarity to Honey Creme too, such as the with honey, honeycomb and Cotton Candy.

Milky Honey
Milky Honey

I wanted the Milky Cube but placed the wrong order and ended with Milky Honey. The Softserve is smooth and silky and flavourful, but I find it a little too sweet.

Samsam
Samsam

I tried an interesting flavour the Samsam. The Red Ginseng Syrup with Almond Flakes paired well. Some may describe the taste as weird. For me, I think it is an acquired taste.

Macaroons
Macarons

Like Honey Creme, Milkcow has macarons as adds on too. Milkcow has a few others such as the Oreo, M&M, Kit Kat, Sweet Dream, Cocoball, Almond Flakes, Honey Cube and Caramel Popcorn. A total of 9 add-on are available.

Which do you prefer? The Honey Creme or Milkcow? I prefer Honey Creme, for the reason, it is less sweet.

Montana Brew Bar At PoMo In Selegie

Montana Brew Bar is a cafe located at the ground floor of PoMo, in Selegie serving chiefly Waffles and Coffee.

Food Menu
Food Menu

There are good selection of Waffles both sweet and savoury. Some of which are pretty interesting too.

I like their coffee selection as Montana offers three cups; the espresso based coffee, Pourover and Aeropress with 4 beans types.

Coffee Menu
Coffee Menu

Though among these you could also find Salads and Sandwiches & Burgers and other drinks like tea too.

I visited the Cafe twice before coming up with this post as I didn’t have a good experience with the cafe at the first visist. So I wanted to find out if that was a one-off case as they were serving some invited bloggers at their cafe that day. Too bad, I wasn’t one of them. Hehe.

Southern Fried Chicken Waffle Sandwich with Wasabi Slaw
Southern Fried Chicken Waffle Sandwich with Wasabi Slaw

At my first visit, I ordered the Southern Fried Chicken Waffle Sandwich with Wasabi Slaw and the Cappuccino. The Cappuccino was served swiftly but I waited for almost 30 minutes for my Main. It was too long a wait especially for lunch. And with such a long wait, I was expecting it to be an awesome one but my Waffle (the bottom half) was quite char. The burnt taste was awful. The top half with some part extremely crispy but others soggy, as it soaked up the salad dressing.

Cappuccino with Montana Houseblend
Cappuccino with Montana Houseblend

For the Cappuccino, the latte art was pretty disappointing. I was advised to have my Cappuccino with the Monatana Houseblend which I did. It has a medium to full body and medium to low acidity with fruity tones and dark chocolate notes.

Waffle Suzette
Waffle Suzette

At my second visit, I tried the Waffle Suzette. The waffle was extremely crispy with a very slight burnt aroma. For those who really loves ultra crispy waffle, this is definitely for you. I fall in love with the lemongrass with orange sauce. It paired off perfectly.

Pourover with Ethiopia YirgaCheffe Beans
Pourover with Ethiopia YirgaCheffe Beans

What amaze me was my Pourover choice of Ethiopia YirgaCheffe Beans, it was an awesome choice to couple with the Waffle Suzette. As the YirgaCheffe has a nice sweet lemongrass flavour with some stone fruit notes that went really well with the waffle.

The waiting time for my second visit was a good 25 minutes. In general, I think it is a little too long a wait for lunch. But foodwise, it was pretty delish though the standard wasn’t too consistent for now. Since I am seeing an improvement in food quality in my second visit, I will visit again probably with my brother as he is a big waffle fan and let’s see what his verdict would be.

Delightful Signatures, Dessert With Modern Twist At Sunshine Plaza

Sunshine Plaza with only a ground floor of shops, congregated a number of eateries, such as Merely for ice cream, Victor’s Kitchen (now known as Regal) for Dim Sum, Parklane Wanton Mee and Oven Marvel for Chicken Pie. An addition is Delightful Signatures for Chinese desserts with a twist.

Interior

Delightful Signatures serves mainly desserts with a modern twist, though there are a few mains such as noodles with either Smoked Duck, Smoked Salmon or Crab leg. There are some cookies and other beverages too.

A total of 8 desserts are served in Delightful Signatures. Their desserts are on the healthier end and are with some health benefits too. Some support heart health, digestion, sleep, nervous system and so on. Look out for the icons that are next to the dishes.

I was tempted to try everything that are on the menu.

Avocado with Walnut Ice Cream
Avocado with Walnut Ice Cream

I started with the Avocado with Walnut Ice Cream. Something which I don’t usually order as I fancy neither Avocado or Walnut. The dessert were served in very bright coloured bowls. The Avocado cream is smooth, light, refreshing and full of Avocado goodness. But I find the taste weird when it is eaten together with the Walnut Ice Cream. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean it is no good, just that I am not used to the taste yet. It could be an acquired taste, I suppose. I like the extra crunch from the chopped walnut that they sprinkle on the top.

Yam Paste with Almond Cream Served in Young Coconut
Yam Paste with Almond Cream Served in Young Coconut

Followed by the Yam Paste with Almond Cream Served in Young Coconut. I never like Almond Cream but thought this combination interesting. To my surprise, I like this. The Almond Cream and Yam Paste provided not only an interesting and unique combination but also an unexpected delish creation. The almond cream is lightly in flavour, not very strong while the yam paste is smooth and tasty. And it is slightly sweetish. There were also some shredded coconut flesh added to provide an extra texture. This is truly amazing. On a side note, I will still not eat Almond Cream on its own, except for this dish, when it is with Yam Paste. 😛

The desserts at Delightful Signatures are on the lighter end, it is not heavy with strong flavours and slightly sweetish so it tend to be healthier. I will be back to finish trying all that are on its menu. LOL!

Three Petits Croissants At SOTA

I was waiting eagerly for Three Petits Croissants to start its operation. I noticed it since it was renovation in progress. Finally, the wait is over.

Interior
Interior

The cafe space is pretty huge. There are bar like tables and chairs in the centre and normal dining tables on the side of these high furniture. There are some sofa seats place right beside the entrance. The decoration looks like a modern theme which is sleek and simple.

Three Petits Croissants featured French pastries. The offerings is very much like Paul and abc but lacking of the sweet pastries and cakes (at least, it wasn’t available except for the Pear Tart when I visited them).

My initial plan was to have a take away but I changed my mind. I have a cappuccino and a Lemon Financier for a trial. I hardly have Financier so I don’t know if this is the best. The texture is very much like an oil based cake with ground almond and slight hint of tangy lemon flavour, not much though. It is not very buttery or oily. The flavour is well balance and on the mild spectrum. I think it will pair better with tea rather than coffee. The coffee is fine with high acidity, medium to full body and medium aroma. It has tint of spice and nutty note.

After all, I still decided to get more pastries home for sharing; bought a Croissant and a Pear Tart. The Pear Tart has a flaky pastry based, some custard and topped with sweetened pear slices. The sweetness was just right with not very buttery tart based. The flavour is likewise on the lower end, not very strong. I did not try the croissant.

My Take Away, Plain Croissant & Pear Tart

The best part, it has 3 for 2 between 7pm and 8pm daily, a pretty good bargain if you happen to be in the area. They are giving a 15% discount if you like them on facebook. Unfortunately, I missed it as I notice their banner only as I was leaving the cafe. 😦

Set At POMO, Value For Money

When I get to know about Set, perched at the second level of POMO shopping mall, I was pretty excited as they were serving 5-course lunch at a$28.80 ++. I really think it is a steal. If the food is excellent, it would be a bonus. Since I was meeting a friend for lunch, I chose to have it there as I thought it was a pretty convenient location.

Set Lunch Menu
Set Lunch Menu

The restaurant has a contemporary design. The tables were pretty spacious and there good spacing between them for some privacy.

Chef Starter, Gratin
Chef Starter, Cheese Gratin

Our Chef Starter was Cheese Gratin. It came with some toast. It wasn’t impressive but certainly above average. It was a good start. I could prefer leaner bacon if I have a choice.

For Cold Dish, I chose Smoked Duck Breast while my friend went for the Tomato Caprese. The greens were certainly fresh. I didn’t quite like the orange salad dressing. There was too much bitter taste and there isn’t enough orangy flavour. It tasted like they added some orange flavouring into it. My friend find that the Tomato Caprese a little salty as they sprinkle some sea salt over the Tomato Caprese. For those who don’t like it to be too salty, you may want to request for no sea salt.

And we moved on to the soup. My friend loves Pumpkin Soup so it was a no brainer for her. We agreed that it was lacking of pumpkin flavour. I am not a soup fan so I went for something safe, the Mushroom Veloute with Peanut Butter. When my friend tasted the Mushroom soup, she commented that there was a burnt taste but I told her it wasn’t burnt but some other taste like BBQ. We were latter informed that the mushroom was smoked before they processed it into soup. Their purpose was to create an enhance mushroom flavour but unfortunately this smokey flavour was not very much appreciated. And was easily mistaken by burnt. I didn’t appreciate the smokey flavour either. I felt that this flavour has spoilt the mushroom flavour of the soup. As they noted that I wasn’t very pleased with the soup, they offered to change it for something else so I chose to try the Double Boiled Herbal Chicken Soup. I could taste some chicken flavour in the soup but there was a little sourish taste as they would have probably either added too much wolfberries or the wolfberries was double-boiled for too long.

Double-boiled Herbal Chicken Soup
Double-boiled Herbal Chicken Soup

Now, it was time for Main. I could decide between the Beef Tenderloin and the Baby Pork Ribs. The service crew mentioned that the Baby Pork Ribs was fatty so that helped me in my selection. My friend opted for the Roasted Chicken Pullet but there was replaced with some Roasted Chicken Thigh. I didn’t get the name of the dish.

The Roasted Beef Tenderloin was by far the best. It was flavourful with marinate but the natural beef flavour was missing. It was quite a shame. I think my friend didn’t have much comment for her main dish.

Finally, the highlights of our meal. We were looking forward to the desserts. Our favourite part of the meal. The service crew arranged three desserts for us. That was a very nice gesture that we appreciate. The desserts were the Espresso Creme Brulee, Pistachio Panna Cotta andd the Poached Pear with Gelato. We started with the Poached Pear with Gelato. The gelato was decent but certain not any high-end brand. It tasted like Meadow Gold. We didn’t appreciate the Poached Pear soaked in Red Wine as we were expecting a sweet pear but it was salty. As for the Espresso Creme Brulee and Pistachio Panna Cotta, these were decent. It didn’t wow us though.

Our verdict, the food wasn’t impressive. Lots of misses but certainly value for money. Would we return? I suppose I would give them another chance.

And my final thoughts, it seems that currently, they are trying to give the customers a lot but at the same time struggling to ensure profit. I think a better strategy would be to reduce the number of courses to maybe four or even three but make sure that in each dish, quality ingredients were used.

The Klatch At Prinsep Street, Simple & Plain

The Klatch is perched a the second floor of unit 50A. It is neither unit facing the street but along this stretch, there is an entrance leading to more shop. Once you walked into this entrance, you can locate the cafe stairway on your left.

Entrance to stairway leading to The Klatch

When I saw the unassuming entrance, it gave me an idea that The Klatch is a simple modest, unpretentious cafe.

Interior

True indeed. The cafe does not have much of a design per se. It was very much mixed and matched with different furniture.

It was a quiet cafe though in the heart of the bustling city, it has a serene ambience.

Menu

Food selection was pretty limited to fries, sandwiches & wraps, lasagne, shepherd’s pie and homemade cakes. They serve various drinks like coffee, tea, chocolate drinks and fruit juices.

I was keen on trying the Cream Cheese Apple Crumble but thought it would be too rich as I have a late lunch that day. So I settled for the Apple Crumble with a Cappuccino instead.

My Order, Cappuccino & Apple Crumble
My Order, Cappuccino & Apple Crumble

The coffee was decent. It has a rich nutty and chocolaty taste together with full body and low acidity.

As for the cake, I find it too sweet. The crumble was sweet, the base was sweet and so is the apple. There are lots of sugar crystals in the crumble too. My suggestion for improvement is to make the apple a little sourish and add some chopped nuts.

If you are looking for a quiet cafe with decent coffee that is in the city, it certainly fit the bill. I think they offer Wifi too.
