The Clueless Goat At Thomson Road

When I first heard of The Clueless Goat At Thomson Road, I didn’t quite like the name. “Clueless” sounded not too nice. Apart from the name, the cafe is pretty awesome in all aspects, from the interior design to the food to the service.

Menu
Menu

The menu isn’t the most tempting or most interesting. They serve only simple Brunches and Sandwiches items with Salad, sides and Waffles and of course coffee and tea and some other drinks too. Even though, that’s the case, all the items I tried so far were pretty outstanding.

Avocado BLT
Avocado BLT

The Avocado BLT was on a Sour Dough, but I never like Sour Dough so I requested for a change to Multi-grain Toast. The ingredient were simple but it was this simplicity that attracted me. It was certainly delish.

Eggs Benedict
Eggs Benedict

For the Eggs Benedict, the hollandaise sauce was awesome too, creamy and not the over sourish kind. The only complaint I have is the yolk was a little too cooked, not runny.

Lemon Meringue Tart
Lemon Meringue Tart

I tried one of the dessert too, the Lemon Meringue Tart. I like the tart base though the portion of Tart versus Lemon Curd versus Meringue could be altered to get a more zing flavour.

5 oz White
5 oz White

Finally the coffee, it was awesome. The way I like it. It was medium to full body, low acidity with a strong nutty and chocolaty flavour note.

I like everything about The Clueless Goat though the dessert could be improved. I was at the cafe three times before I came up with this post and each time when I was at the cafe, the service was certainly friendly, warm and prompt. This is so even on occasion where the cafe was extremely busy. Well Done The Clueless Goat!

YiLi Pao Pao Ice At Orchard Central

For those who have visited Shilin Market in Taipei, Taiwan might have known about YiLi Pao Pao Ice. If you don’t or have missed it, nevermind, as YiLi Pao Pao Ice is now found in Singapore, Basement 2 of Orchard Central, around MEDZ.

Menu
Menu

If you are looking for something hot, this shop is definitely not for you as they only offer the Pao Pao Ice and a few cold drinks. And the highlight in this shop, of course has to be the Pao Pao Ice per the name of the shop.

Pao Pao Ice
Pao Pao Ice

When I first set foot at the shop and saw the Pao Pao Ice display, I thought to myself, it looks very much like Ice Cream. They offered 10 flavours on the day when I was at the shop. Based on their menu, they have 13 flavours with three special, Boba Milk & Egg, Peanut & Oreos and Red Beans & Milk.

Toppings
Toppings

After trying several flavours, including the special, I am ready to order. Each cup comes with 2 flavours, as I prefer the fruity flavoured ones, I chose Strawberry and Valentine’s Fruit and toppings are available too and my choice was the AiYu Jelly.

My Order, Valentine's Fruit and Strawberry
My Order, Valentine’s Fruit and Strawberry

PaoPao Ice are not as smooth as Ice Cream and Softserve, neither is it creamy. As the name suggested, it is a little icy, very much like finely shaved ice and close to sorbet. It is certainly a good alternative when under such a hot climate like Singapore.

Koh Grill & Sushi In Food Republic Wisma Atria

I am sure most have known about Koh Grill & Sushi and its Shiok Maki by now. It is no longer a hidden gem after so much of lime light by bloggers (not only the food bloggers but lifestyle bloggers too), the media and through word of mouths by the non-bloggers. With all these, they have attracted long queue every single day and at every single hours. And after so long, I finally have dinner at Koh Grill & Sushi with a friend to celebrate her belated birthday.

We gave Shiok Maki a miss since everyone has been talking about it. I want to find out for myself, how other items on their menu fare.

Fried Udon
Fried Udon

The first item served was the Fried Udon from our list of order. As usual, all stirred fried are kind of oily. This was no exception. They have fried it with lots of eggs. I saw huge chunks of them. Taste-wise, it wasn’t as tasty when it was eaten warm, it tasted better when it was cold.

Maki
Maki

For the Maki, there were quite a few other selections, beside the all famous Shiok Maki, we went for the, I can’t remember the name. In it there were soft shell crab and on the top was a slice of tuna. Personally, we felt that the “Wow” factor came from the rich creamy Mayo-like sauce. This sauce enhanced the maki and make it really yummy, but at the same time, it also masked a little of the sweetness of the sashimi slice. Don’t get me wrong, nonetheless, I am not complaining, I do like it.

Cod Fish
Cod Fish

We ordered a Cod Fish with Roe for sharing too. This dish is very characteristics of Koh Grill & Sushi Bar, it was once again the creamy sauce that does the magic. The only feedback I have is, there were quite some bones in it. I chose the cod fish as this fish is usually quite boneless.

Chicken Wing, Aspara Buta Maki (Bacon rolled with Asparagus)
Chicken Wing, Aspara Buta Maki (Bacon rolled with Asparagus)

Lastly, we have some grills too. We have the Chicken Wing and the Aspara Buta. The grilling skill was excellent. This was especially true for the Bacon. There was a slight crispy texture and yet I could taste the tender Bacon too. Together with the sweetness of the asparagus, it was wonderful.

Food was served swiftly but the environment was a little far too noisy. On the whole, Koh Grill & Sushi Bar does live up to its name. So the next time, don’t go only for its Shiok Maki, try out other dishes. And if you can make sure you and your friend(s) can turn up together on time for the reservation, drop them a sms to reserve. This could help to avoid the wait. Koh Grill & Sushi only hold your reservation for 10 minutes and all guests must be present before you could get a table, otherwise you will loose your reservation.

Wrap & Roll, Vietnamese Food, At The Ion Orchard

I was so excited to spot Wrap & Roll at The Ion Orchard recently. And since it was a raining day that day, it was the perfect time for a bowl of hot piping noodle soup.

Wrap & Roll is hailed from Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam and it is a famous chain store serving some of the best Vietnamese food. And they are the Finalist of Best Asian Casual Dining in the Epicurean Star Awards 2014.

Pho Beef Noodle Soup [M14]
Pho Beef Noodle Soup [M14]
I am a fan of the dry Vietnamese noodle but since it was a raining day, I prefer hot soup noodle so I have Pho Beef Noodle Soup. I have a sip of the soup and I could taste the beef fragrance in the soup. Unlike some of the Pho, it is the sweet from MSG instead. Next, I went on to the slice beef. It was thin and extremely tender, in fact, in melt in the mouth. This bowl of Pho is currently my top fave.

Gỏi cuốn (Fresh Spring Rolls with Prawns & Pork) [A4]
Gỏi cuốn (Fresh Spring Rolls with Prawns & Pork) [A4]
I can’t missed out on the Spring Rolls. They offered so many different interesting variety which you don’t usually find in the Vietanmese restaurant. I can’t wait to try them all. The spring roll was very usual. It was the sauce that I thought was different and awesome. It was served with a sourish peanut sauce instead of the sourish fish sauce. I didn’t have enough sauce for my two rolls.

Condiments
Condiments

For the spice lover, there are some chilli condiments on the table as well for you to spice things up!!

Iced Lemongrass
Iced Lemongrass

l ordered an Iced Lemongrass drink too. It has a good lemongrass flavour and not too sweet. This is a simply Lemongrass drink with no fizzy gas.

Rau câu dừa (Vietnamese Coconut Jelly) [D4]
Rau câu dừa (Vietnamese Coconut Jelly) [D4]
No dessert, my meal is never complete. There are about 4 selection and I was interested to have the Vietnamese Coconut Jelly. It was so good, full of coconut goodness. The raisins added a different texture to the jelly and the slight sourish to complement the sweetness from the Coconut.

Interioir
Interioir

The interior is very much causal and simple with lots of the Vietnamese hat as a feature.

Wrap & Roll served a wide variety of food. For the menu, click here. I found something that I very eager to try, the Roll-It-Yourself Dishses. Basically, each dish has a number of ingredients for you to make it into a roll. It’s fun to have this dish with a group of friends. I am going to try that soon.

Cocoa Colony At Shaw Centre, Scotts Road

I took my Mom to Cocoa Colony At Shaw Centre along Scotts Road as she loves Chocolate drink. So I thought this place would be perfect for her. But bear in mind, I have not tried, so she is going to be the guinea pig. Hehe.

I spotted Cocoa Colony when I went to I Want My Noodle but I forgotten about it until a second occassion when I was there with my Dad and aunt to Xi.Yan.

The outlet may look pretty huge as it has a wide breadth but they don’t offer much seats. You will find only 4 seats facing the Claymore Hill and Pacific Plaza, that’s more for people grazing, I suppose.

Ice Cream Flavours Available
Ice Cream Flavours Available

Cocoa Colony offers mainly chocolate stuff. There is a good list of various Chocolate concoction. Fortunate for the non-Cocoa drinkers, you will find the standard tea and coffee too. They offer some ice cream (which I didn’t realize) until the staff asked if I would like to try (I mean to get a scoop). And I saw some cakes too. Both cakes and ice cream, there were limited selection. After looking at the sight of the ice cream, I thought Cocoa Colony Signature would be an interesting flavour. Not knowing what was in it as I did not read the flavour description or enquire about it and neither did they offer me to try before getting a scoop.

Iced Cocoa Shakerato
Iced Cocoa Shakerato

After contemplating for quite a few good minutes, my Mom finally decided to have the Iced Cocoa Shakerato. She loves it. She finds the chocolate taste was strong enough for her. Unfortunately, I tried only after I started my ice cream so I couldn’t really taste it.

Cocoa Colony Signature
Cocoa Colony Signature

Ok, so how was the ice cream? It was certainly creamy, strong in flavour. After the ice cream landed on the tastebud, instantaneously, I could recognize that it was peanut butter. The taste was further enhanced with the nuts. The chocolate bites were added to provide more of a crunch than flavour. We enjoyed the ice cream.

My Mom declared her love for the Cocoa drinks and the ice cream. I am sure she will bug be to go back for more. Lol!! And I am glad she likes it.

Janice Wong Dessert Art Pop-Up Store At The Ion Orchard

Chef Janice Wong who is behind the 2am:Dessert Bar has launched another brand of sweets simply known by her name “Janice Wong”. Currently, there isn’t a permanently outlet, but I understand from the service crew that, that’s in the pipeline. So meanwhile, it is in the form of pop-up. At the moment, the pop-up is held at Ion Orchard, Level 1.

The first time when I chanced upon the Pop-up store, I was captivated by the lovely Eclairs.

The awesome service crew did a wonderful job in recommending me a few of the Eclairs and his favourite. He could provide pretty detail descriptions of the flavours, I really appreciate such service. Great Job!!

I got them home to share with my mom. I enjoyed the Eclairs. And my mom falls in love with them. She kept telling me how good they were and how much she enjoyed.

There are some flavours that are very unique, and kind of an acquired taste. An example was the Truffle Chocolate Eclairs which I didn’t like it at the first bites but subsequently, after getting used to the taste, I enjoyed.

Weekly Special Flavour and Mochi
Weekly Special Flavour and Mochi

There are also weekly special flavours. I brought my Mom to the store and she picked one of those. We tried the Mochi as well. All the three flavours; Chocolate Truffle, Matcha and Chestnut. Chestnut was the sweetest of the three flavours. It was so sweet till my Mom kept talking about how ultimate it was.

There are some cakes selections as well. I find the sphere shaped cakes interesting. There are multiple layers within the sphere. We tried the Truffle Dove. Truffle was strong and it lingers in the mouth for quite some time.

Raspberry Matcha Travel Cake

We also tried the Raspberry Matcha Travel Cake. I am going to try the Chocolate Bon Bon next. There are other products like the Chocolate Paint too.

Janice Wong offers a range of desserts with some very sweet ones and some with better balance and some unique flavours to suit all tastebuds. We enjoyed the unique creation and I hope to see a permanent Janice Wong Dessert Bar soon.

Oh ya, the pop-up will be around till 14 February.
