The Little Family Cafe, TLF, At Serangoon Central

Finally, an ice cream parlour, The Little Family Cafe, has found its way to Serangoon Central.

TLF Cafe is mainly an ice cream parlour serving some drinks such as coffee and tea as well. It offers a pretty good range of flavours for the ice cream but I felt a little overwhelmed by the colours. It looked so artificial.

Nevertheless, I went ahead to try their ice cream and waffle. I got myself a scoop of Thai Milk Tea and another scoop of Green Tea with Red Bean. To my surprise, both were excellent. It was richly flavoured. The ice cream isn’t the creamy kind. The only complaint I have is that the Thai Milk Tea was slightly too sweet for my palette but I am sure most would find it acceptable. As for the waffle, I find that there are room for improvement. It was a little under flavoured though I like the sweetness level, it was perfect.

I find it difficult to locate the block as the two blocks, block 253 and 254 seems to be joint together, so here are some directions to help all to get to the cafe with ease. First locate Serangoon Central Drive and then look for Block 253 or 254 and then locate for a carpark entrance and TLF cafe is right beside the carpark entrance.

The Little Family Cafe serves some awesome ice cream. I am sure I will return to try more of their other flavours.

The Cold Pantry, A Cafe Serving Frozen Yogurt In Rangoon Road

Rangoon Road is getting busy. With early entrance, Jewels to recent joiners such as Woodshed, La’Coffee, Old Hen and now The Cold Pantry, joining the cafe scene there.

It is extremely easy to locate The Cold Pantry, especially for those who know Jewels. It is on Jewels left.

The Cold Pantry features the Frozen Yogurt. It has three creation on its regular menu and a new creation regularly.

I like the ambience, the design of The Cold Pantry very much. Though it is simple but with the little cushy pillow added and some accessories placed throughout the cafe, it makes the cafe very cosy, sweet and good for hanging out.

On the menu, I was attracted to both the Thai Milk Tea Flavour Yogurt (a new creation) and the Moive Date (a savoury yogurt on its regular menu). I tried the Thai Milk Tea Yogurt on my first visit, will try the Moive Date on my next visit. Though I really should have tried both. Lol.

Thai Milk Tea Yogurt
Thai Milk Tea Yogurt

The Thai Milk Tea was lightly scented. The natural yogurt taste was stronger. There are honey crunch on the top of the yougurt which are made in-house. There were mixture of with sesame and pure honey crunch. The honey crunch tasted similar to the honey comb in the Cadbury Crunchie Chocolate. The sesame one gave a little savoury flavour to the creation. At the bottom of the creation, there are cornflakes and Nata De Coco.

The Movie Date
The Movie Date

On another visit, I tried the savoury Froyo, the Movie Date. As the name suggested, how could popcorn, Nachos and Cheese be missing? On the top, Caramel Popcorn is added and chocolate sauce is drizzled. The  popcorn are made in-house. Plain Natural Yogurt is used in this creation. There are some banana slices around the brim of the cups. At the bottom layer, you will find some Nachos and Cheese. This creation is surprisingly delish. If you like stuff that are salty and sweet, you would probably like this. A sudden thought, what about having Salted Caramel Popcorn or maybe drizzle with Salted Caramel Sauce instead of Chocolate?

The Cold Pantry, a sweet & cosy Froyo cafe has very warm, thoughtful and friendly service. And the service crew, I think she might be the owner too, who served me on both visit, remembered me, she has very good memory. I enjoyed the service and the Froyo. I will be back real soon.

Flavour Flings, A Cafe In Hougang

Yet another cafe in Hougang, Flavour Flings. It is a stone throw from Ciel Patisserie (for those who know where Ciel Patisserie is).

Interior, By the side
Interior, By the side

I was pretty impressed with the decoration when I entered. The view was more than pleasant. I like the pebbles laid. It seems they have used lots of recycle material. On the exterior side of the cafe, they use egg trays as decoration. While on the same side, the interior part, it seems Flavour Flings uses some recycle wood. All were put together with well thoughts.

So much so about the design. What about the menu and the food? They serve the usual Egg Benedicts, Pancake (seems to be in the trend now), some toasties & sandwiches, pastas. Something a little unusual is the Egg Casseroles and I like the dessert menu very much. I will try them at my next visit.

That day, I feel like having Egg Benedicts as it was quite a while ago since I have them. And I never failed to go with a cup of Cappuccino.

Egg Benedicts
Egg Benedicts

Serving was pretty huge, I was quite surprised. I like the Hollandaise Sauce. It was slightly creamy, not overly sour and a little savoury. The potatoes were exceptional delish. I am not a potato fans (except when it is in the form of fries) but I like it very much. So is the salad. At a glance, I thought there weren’t any salad dressing but I was wrong. The dressing though was sparingly drizzled, it was sufficient and was superb. The bread they used was brioche which I mistaken it as thick toast. The brioche was marvellous too.

Cappuccino

Coffee served at Flavour Flings was equally more than decent. The coffee was of medium body and aroma, low acidity with nutty and butterscotch hints.

The menu at Flavour Flings may be garden-variety, but the taste is exceptional. I will return to try their desserts.

Three Years In A Balloon At Upper Paya Lebar

The name, Three Years In A Balloon sounded with lota fantasy, magical and mystics. It sounded more like a novel, such as Wizard of Oz than a cafe. I was attracted by the name to find out more. It is very easy to find spot the cafe as it is right behind a bus stop.

The people behind Three Years In a Balloon was from Wimbly Lu. This cafe specialises in beautifully customised decorative cakes. Like Little Wimbly Lu, it does not have mains but only desserts; cakes, ice cream and waffles. For the menu, click here.

On the Exterior Wall
On the Exterior Wall

The cafe devoted at least two third of the space to the kitchen for bakes and the remaining for dine in. The dinning tables were lined by the side, in a straight line. The chairs were very much mixed and match.

Since it was after lunch that I arrived at the cafe, I have dessert and a drink.

Lemon Curd Gateau
Lemon Curd Gateau

For cake, I have the Lemon Curd Gateau which has an oil based cake, laced with butter cream and topped with a layer of lemon curd. I like the lemon curd but not the cake and the butter cream. The cake was a little rough, crumbly and a little hard and a little too sweet while the butter cream was also too sweet for me. The lemon curd was perfect though. Zesty with a balanced sweet and sour flavours.

Iced Matcha Latte
Iced Matcha Latte

For a change, I have an Iced Matcha Latte instead of my usual cappuccino. The Iced Matcha Latte tasted like it has half syrup and half milk with dashes of Matcha flavour cum powder to give the greenish colouring. I didn’t enjoy the Matcha Latte. In fact, I was extremely disappointed. I need a better Iced Matcha Latte to satisfied my craving.

If I return, I will go for only the waffles and nothing else. You can’t go wrong if waffle is ordered as their specialised or rather signature item is the waffle.

Little Wimbly Lu At My Village In Serangoon Gardens

I have long heard about the wonderful waffles from Wimbly Lu but it is a little out of the way so have been dragging my feet. With the opening of Little Wimbly Lu at MyVillage, a little more convenient as it is nearer to a bus stop so I decided to pop by with my brother, who also loves waffle.

The cafe is rather small but they have more seats both outdoor and some seats within the mall that are indoor. in the cafe, there are two high tables in the centre and some normal height table and chairs by a glass panel.

Waffles with Ice Cream, Cheesecake, Strawberry and Salted Caramel
Waffles with Ice Cream, Cheesecake, Strawberry and Salted Caramel

We wanted to the waffles so much till we were there before we have our lunch and we were very focused and we ordered only waffles with ice cream. The waffles were light, airy, fluffy and with a gold crispy as the outer coat. We agree that this is the kinda perfect waffle. The size of half the usual size is a great portion for one; for those solo cafe goer, won’t have to waste food. We have a scoop of strawberry, my brother’s favourite, the cheesecake and the salted caramel. The ice cream has a pretty strong flavour, not the lightly flavoured kind and the sweetness level was acceptable to me. Overall, pretty delish.

Little Wimbly Lu serves mainly dessert. You won’t find any mains except for some toasties, unless you recognise these as mains. And of course some drinks too. We will surely return for this excellent waffles. I am already craving for it.
