Yogart Artisan Yoghurt At Burlington Square On Bencoolen Road

Yoğart Artisan Yoghurt located at the ground floor of Burlington Square, adjacent to Sim Lim Square has its shop front facing the side of La Salle.

It offers both Frozen Yogurt (froyo) and Popsicles. And Waffles too.

Popsicles
Popsicles

There were 4 flavours for Popsicle; Mango, Yuzu, Berry and Chocolate.

Toppings & Sauces
Toppings & Sauces

I tried both the Froyo and Popsicles.

Yogart has a similar approach to Ilao Ilao. It has a Bliss (termed Sanum in Ilao Ilao) which you will choose 3 fruits, one bites (equivalent to crunch in Ilao Ilao) and a sauce.

The available fresh fruits were Watermelon, Kiwi, Rockmelon, Blueberry, Strawberry and Mango. While Bites available were Oreo Crumbs, Caramelised Cookie, Digestive Cookie, Almonds, Granola and Nuts & Oats Cookies. Lastly the sauces available were Dark Chocolate, Rum & Raisins, Coco Bianco, Summer Berries, Pretty in Pink and Tangerine.

If you don’t prefer the Bliss, you could opt for Small Cup (1 or no topping), Medium Cup (2 topping) or Large Cup (3 toppings).

I went for the Bliss. I chose Digestive Biscuits with 3 fruits of Watermelon, Rockmelon and Mango and lastly the sauce was Pretty in Pink (a Guava sauce)

Bliss
Bliss

I find the entire creation a little on the sweet side. I prefer it a little more sourish.

Yuzu Explosion Popsicle
Yuzu Explosion Popsicle

I am always attracted by Popsicle and I tried the Yuzu Explosion. The Popsicle was creamy, smooth and a little more sweet than sourish. I wouldn’t mind it a little more sourish while sweetness level remains.

Yogart Artisan Yoghurt provides a good alternatives to the froyo scenes with nice creamy, smooth froyo and popsicle to combat our sweltering weather.

More Ice Cream Parlour in Town, Plus39 Gelato Bar and Everton Creamery

Plus39 Gelato Bar and Everton Creamery opened around the same period though at different location. I tried both, not on the same day but with the same week and I must say, both are awesome though not cheap.

The gelato is extremely smooth and creamy and it doesn’t feel airy too. In totality, well balance. The texture alone “Wow” me. The gelato is also packed with flavour and tasted so natural, though a little too sweet for my palette.

Interior

Plus39 Gelato Bar has both dine-in and takeaway at different prices. You can opt for 1 to 3 scoops cup. For dine-in, you get a choice of sauce or topping too which is not available for takeaway. There are a total of 8 flavours each day for your selection. There are unique flavours such as Chocolate Chilli and Chocolate Ginger if you are adventurous.

The gelato offered by Everton Creamery though may not be as smooth as Plus39 but it is certainly part of the excellent class. I tried both the Gelato and Sorbet, both are equally good.

Ice Cream Counter

Everton Creamery is a pure gelato parlour with no other offers, at least for now. There were a good selection of about a dozen of flavours though none unique flavours on the deck but taste very outstanding. They don’t offer much seats within their premise, very much for takeaway.

YiLi Pao Pao Ice At Orchard Central

For those who have visited Shilin Market in Taipei, Taiwan might have known about YiLi Pao Pao Ice. If you don’t or have missed it, nevermind, as YiLi Pao Pao Ice is now found in Singapore, Basement 2 of Orchard Central, around MEDZ.

Menu
Menu

If you are looking for something hot, this shop is definitely not for you as they only offer the Pao Pao Ice and a few cold drinks. And the highlight in this shop, of course has to be the Pao Pao Ice per the name of the shop.

Pao Pao Ice
Pao Pao Ice

When I first set foot at the shop and saw the Pao Pao Ice display, I thought to myself, it looks very much like Ice Cream. They offered 10 flavours on the day when I was at the shop. Based on their menu, they have 13 flavours with three special, Boba Milk & Egg, Peanut & Oreos and Red Beans & Milk.

Toppings
Toppings

After trying several flavours, including the special, I am ready to order. Each cup comes with 2 flavours, as I prefer the fruity flavoured ones, I chose Strawberry and Valentine’s Fruit and toppings are available too and my choice was the AiYu Jelly.

My Order, Valentine's Fruit and Strawberry
My Order, Valentine’s Fruit and Strawberry

PaoPao Ice are not as smooth as Ice Cream and Softserve, neither is it creamy. As the name suggested, it is a little icy, very much like finely shaved ice and close to sorbet. It is certainly a good alternative when under such a hot climate like Singapore.

Nookie Yogurt At Selegie POMO

After the success of Montana Brew Bar, a waffle cafe, the brains behind this cafe immediately followed with Nookie Yogurt. I suppose they are striking the iron while it is hot. And interestingly, Nookie Yogurt and Montana Brew Bar are situated back to back.

Like the many cafe that are making storm on Instagram, they started by inviting famous Instagrammers and bloggers to food tasting.

Attitude Yogurt in the making
Attitude Yogurt in the making

Since their opening, they have been seeking feedback and improving their products and currently there are a total of 6 flavours.
1. Matcha Black Sesame Crumble
2. Mango Sticky Ricke
3. Strawberry Watermelon Rose
4. Salted Caramel Banana
5. Chocolate Caramel Fudge
6. Apple Berry Pie
But I am not sure if these flavours are here to stay.

Strawberry Watermelon Rose
Strawberry Watermelon Rose

The first I tried was the Strawberry Watermelon Rose. I find this flavour very original. The Rose flavour blended very well with both the Strawberry and Watermelon. I like this best, so far.

Apple Pie
Apple Pie

The next I tried was the Apple Pie. The yogurt was filled with Apple cubes and apple sauce with blueberry toppings and some crumbles. It tasted very much like an Apple Pie with Yogurt. This is second on my fave list.

Matcha Black Sesame Crumble
Matcha Black Sesame Crumble

The third I tried was a relatively new flavour, the Matcha Black Sesame Crumble. In it, beside the Matcha sauce and the black sesame crumble, there were watermelon and kiwi. I find that there were too many fruits and too little yogurt in this creation. In addition, both the green tea and black sesame flavours were too weak. I could not taste much of these flavours. I didn’t like it as much compared with the former.

In general, their yogurt is a little sourish, but not as sour as the Ilao Ilao. Neither it is very creamy, not as creamy as The Cold Pantry‘s original yogurt. So personally, I find Nookie Yogurt lacks of characteristic as it is a little over balanced. The consolation is that the various interesting flavours of the sauce make up for this weakness. Moreover, most of the time, with the flavour masking the yogurt, most would have neglected the taste of the frozen yogurt itself and it would become secondary as the focus would have been shifted towards the flavours instead.

As I prefer a really good solid yogurt over the flavours, I still find the best original frozen yogurt remains with The Cold Pantry. It is the interesting flavours and the pretty looking creation at Nookie Yogurt that attracts.

Fatcat Ice Cream Bar At Bedok North Avenue 2

Fatcat Ice Cream Bar was opened on 1 January this year and I knew about Fatcat Ice Cream Bar when they were in preparation and was following them closely. But it was only after two months, that I found the time to visit them. It was like finally, I did it.

Fatcat Ice Cream Bar is very marketing-savvy and have created a storm as they invited lots of famous Instagrammer to savour their creation before their official opening. As a result, lots of amazing looking photos were posted. And after two full months of operation, there were still lots of photos on Instagram and were looking awesome.

Menu
Menu

The menu on Fatcat Ice Cream Bar is extremely small. There are only 2 plated desserts each day, one sphere and the other was some creation (similar to the ones offered by Selfish Gene Patisserie). And of course you get about 18 flavours of ice cream and standard beverages. In addtion, you will find Wine and Beer on the menu too. They are fame for their Charcoal Waffle with Salted Egg sauce with sprinkled of dried Lavender was termed as Gourmet Waffle.

Plated Dessert Menu
Plated Dessert Menu

I was at Fatcat Ice Cream Bar on a Sunday at 1pm (1hr after their opening). I stressed the time here as I needed to be there as soon as they opened their door due to all items, except ice cream and beverages, were limited in quantity each day.

On that day, there was Banana Nutella, left with 10 while the Pina Colada Sphere was left with 20. In addition, the ice cream bar was packed with customers almost to the brim. Luckily, there were 2 seats at the bar tables. Anyway, while I was waiting for my food, I got a “normal” table.

As I was there alone, I couldn’t be trying everything on the menu despite it was limited. So I went ahead with the Gourmet Waffle and the Pina Colada Sphere.

Pina Colada Sphere
Pina Colada Sphere

Firstly, I have the Pina Colada Sphere. As the name suggested, Pina Colada mixed was stored in a jelly-like material which burst easily after popping into the mouth. This can’t be shared, so you just need to order one for each diner. I liked the moment when the sphere burst in the mouth with the Pina Colada flowing out and mingling with the tastebuds. One was not enough. I will have two the next time. 😛

Gourmet Waffle with Hay Honey Ice Cream
Gourmet Waffle with Hay Honey Ice Cream

While ordering, I was wondering which ice cream flavour would go well with the salted egg. I wanted a flavour that blend well with the salted egg sauce, not anything that will mask it. I have no idea which was the best so I just went ahead with Hay Honey, no regret. So, personally, I think anything that is light and non-fruity would go well with the Salted Egg. I think the tea flavoured ice cream would go well with salted egg too. I will try it out next.

The waffle was crispy and fluffy. The Charcoal as an ingredient also cause the waffle to be crumble-like. Besides the salted egg sauce, which I would prefer it to be stronger, there was a caramel (or maybe was toffee sauce) surrounded the waffle with some dried lavender sprinkled on it. I was surprised that the lavender went so well with the salted egg. It was remarkable.

Fatcat Ice Cream Bar is certainly a gem to cafe hoppers or rather desserts lover in the East. Apart from the limited number of plated desserts offered each day, Fatcat Ice Cream Bar is awesome.

Milkcow Soft Serve At Cathay Cineplex

After Honey Creme created a splash, Milkcow has followed closely and arrived at Singapore, occupying a shop at the ground floor of Cathay Cineplex, Dhoby Ghaut.

The interior is mainly white.

Milkcow offers quite a selection of flavours for the soft serve. There are some very interesting flavours such as Red Ginseng, Giandula Syrup and Pistachio Syrup. Of course, you will find some similarity to Honey Creme too, such as the with honey, honeycomb and Cotton Candy.

Milky Honey
Milky Honey

I wanted the Milky Cube but placed the wrong order and ended with Milky Honey. The Softserve is smooth and silky and flavourful, but I find it a little too sweet.

Samsam
Samsam

I tried an interesting flavour the Samsam. The Red Ginseng Syrup with Almond Flakes paired well. Some may describe the taste as weird. For me, I think it is an acquired taste.

Macaroons
Macarons

Like Honey Creme, Milkcow has macarons as adds on too. Milkcow has a few others such as the Oreo, M&M, Kit Kat, Sweet Dream, Cocoball, Almond Flakes, Honey Cube and Caramel Popcorn. A total of 9 add-on are available.

Which do you prefer? The Honey Creme or Milkcow? I prefer Honey Creme, for the reason, it is less sweet.

Re-Group X Scoop Therapy At Kim Keat Road

Re-Group x Scoop Therapy is by the folks behind Group Therapy. I quite like the food served at Group Therapy so I went down to check on them twice.

The first time, I ordered Shepherd Pie. This is not commonly seen in cafe. This dish is best for cafehoppers who like potato and meat as you get the best of both world. When it was served, I thought it was a pretty small portion but to my surprise, it was very filling due to the potato. This Shepherd Pie has a pretty equal portion of mashed potato and meat. The Mashed Potato has a crisp crust on the outer layer and soft inside. It was quite an awesome dish. The best part was, it came with a side salad of Mesclun Mixed drizzled with Japanses like Sesame salad dressing.

Shepherd Pie
Shepherd Pie

And I ordered a Cappuccino. It was pretty decent; medium body and acidity with nutty flavour note.

Cappuccino

Cappuccino

The ice cream was too tempting to give it a missed. I spotted an interesting flavour, Maple Bacon. I never like Bacon, so I still don’t fancy this flavour. As for the texture of ice cream, it has a pretty creamy texture and medium sweetness. Beside this interesting flavour, there are some others such as Coconut Mango, Butter Beer and Malted Cornflakes which I am very keen to try.

On my second visit, I tried their Pumpkin Pancake. The Pancake was very soft and melted in the mouth. The Poached Eggs were with runny yolks, that was awesome. While the Hollandaise Sauce was creamy and slight briny, that was nice too. But the Pulled Pork was a little to salty. As the Pulled Pork was with some gravy, and it sat on the half the Pancake, resulted in this half a little soggy. The other half was covered by the salad and the Pancake was fine. As it was Pumpkin Pancake, it was a shame that I could not really taste the pumpkin. It was too subtle. The Pancake does taste extra sweet as I am sure the Pumpkin contributed to the sweetness. The side salad was similar to the one offered with the Shepherd Pie.

Pumpkin Pancake

This round, instead of having coffee, I ordered an Iced Matcha Latte. I find the taste a little too dilute. The Matcha flavour was a little weak.

Iced Matcha Latte
Iced Matcha Latte

I like the ambience of the cafe as the few large glass panel allows natural light to penetrate into the cafe creating a bright, warm feel. The theme seems very much like Scandinavia style. All in all, it is very soothing and comforting as a whole.

As for the page, two pages. You will find food on the front and beverages and desserts on the back.

I find that some of the food served at Re-group was pretty interesting. There are many interesting items on the menu that I wanted to try such as the Mushroom Gnocchi, Crunchy French Toast and Buttermilk Fried Chicken. The menu “Wow” me but somehow, the food doesn’t. It is without doubt that it was delish but the Wow factor is somehow missing.
