I was attracted by a Char Siu (BBQ Honey Pork) photo from Instagram that got me excited to try Char, a Restaurant along Guillemard Road whipping Cantonese cuisines.
I went with my aunt and uncle on a weekday for dinner and to our surprise it was crowded. We were in the queue for almost 30 minutes. Remember to make your reservation if you are going there.
While we were waiting, we started looking at the menu and decided what we wanted for dinner. Immediately, we placed our order when we were seated. It was a shame that their signature Char Siu were sold.
As usual, we will have a vegetable. We opted for Sambal Kang Kong. The sambal wasn’t too spicy and it was tasty.
Since it is a Cantonese Restaurant, Roast is a must. We ordered a double roast of Roast Duck and Roast Crispy Pork Belly. We love the Roast Duck. It was tasty with a good crisp skin. The Roast Crispy Pork Belly was equally awesome. Our only complaint was it was too fatty. The skin was excellent, as you bite, you can hear the crunch of the crispiness.
The last dish was Minched Meat with Aubergine in Casserole. Among the dishes we ordered, this was the least delish, nevertheless still above average. It was a great dish to go with rice.
My uncle also ordered a Shredded Duck Noodle Soup. I didn’t take a photo and I didn’t try as I was too full. The portion was huge.
We enjoyed our dinner at Char. No doubt, I will be back for the Char Siu and I am keen to try their Beef Hor Fun too. Oh ya, do remember to make reservation before popping by.
Once again, I was in Hong Kong in August. Like the last time, I capitalized on the opportunity by extending my stay for 2 more days. I woke up early for a leisure breakfast at Oolaa Cafe at Soho, Sheung Wan.
Right after breakfast, I walked towards the Bus Terminal at Exchange Square to take a bus to Stanley Market. There are Citybus Service 6, 6A, 6X, 66 and 260 from Central with 6X begin the express bus. The bus stand for 6, 6X and 6A is closer to Exchange Square Tower 2. I am not sure about the rest. You got to be careful while looking for the bus stand when at the Bus Terminal, as there isn’t a specific lane or platform for the pedestrians so you walked on the bus lane. For more information about the bus, click here.
I happened to take 6X. The ride was great as it passed by the scenic Deep Water Bay and Repulse Bay. But the road is very bendy. If you have travel sickness, beware.
Finally I arrived at Stanley, I chose to alight at the Stanley Plaza.
I roamed around Stanley Plaza for a moment.
Walked down the escalator towards the ground floor, passed by a supermart and saw a lovely Labrador at the Dog Parking Bay. Stanley is such a dog friendly place.
I saw a few Guinness World Record awarded to Stanley, all relating to doggies. It’s a doggy heaven.

As I walked around, I spotted many doggies in the area.

Around the Stanley Plaza, you can easily spot a few places of interest such as the Tin Hau Temple, Tai Wong Temple and the of all famous Murray House.

I strolled along the Stanley Main Street and reached the round-about …

… found a shop selling lots of very cute animals stuff toys, not the furry type but make of cloth. It was the rabbit that caught my attention.

I decided to pop by St Anne’s Church.

As I stepped out of St Anne’s Church, I was greeted by Stanley Post Office
When I reached the Stanley Bus Terminal, I saw the Bus Services Information, indicating the various buses to the City.
After which, I decided to walk back to Stanley Plaza, passed by the Stanley Cave, took a photo as I like what I saw.
For I have not explored the area beyond Murray House so I walked towards that direction, saw the Blake Pier
… walked a little further, heading the direction of Kum Yam Temple/Pak Tai Temple which is up-hill.
But decided to make a U-turn for whatever reason.

… saw more views of what I like, took more photos behind taking a bus to head back to the city for some shopping trips.
I needed energy for my shopping trips, had late lunch at Butcher Club.
After all the shopping, time for dinner. I have my dinner at Joy Hing Roasted Meat.
Now, it was late and I needed my sleep. Back to hotel. Day 2 to continue … click here.

I am certain that most are familiar or even a fan of Yung Kee, but I still want to write a post on them as I just feel like it, wanting to share my thoughts. 😛
It’s a well known fact that Yung Kee serves great Roast Goose, flavourful with crispy skin. I enjoy their roast goose as well but the BBQ Pork is not as great as their Roast Goose. That’s really a pity.
The other must have, for those who are adventurous, do try the Century Egg. It is excellent. It has the perfect texture for both the egg “white” and especially the yolk. It is semi runny. Awesome.
The greens were pretty crispy and fresh. The colour are still bright greeny. After all, still very much normal, as usual greens.
Steamed Garlic Prawns
I like the Steamed Garlic Prawns. The taste was wonderful, garlicky and tasty.
My conclusion, Yung Kee is a great restaurant to indulge in as the food are not cheap though good. There are roast and greens that are as good as Yung Kee at a lesser price. I guess is the ambience and the brand that we are paying as well.
One tip from my observation. If you choose to dine after 6.45 pm, true especially on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, do make reservation, otherwise prepare to wait. If you do not have any reservation, walk-in best time is before 6.15 pm.
Tai Hing offers mixed platter roast meat, this is a great option for people like me who like to try everything the restaurant offers. It was a pity that they don’t serve roast goose in the platter. The Roast Meat was great. The fat layer was a very thin layer and the meat is still so tender and soft. The skin layer was well roast, it was crispy.
The BBQ Pork is tender and delicious, full flavour of the BBQ sauce but on the salty end.
The Roast Goose has a crispy shiny skin and tender meat. A great place to enjoy roast meat at a reasonable price.

Three types of Roast Meat
The roast goose is well roasted with a crispy skin and the fat layer between the skin and meat was thin. I find the meat a slightly, very slightly, tough. It would be better if it is a little more tender.
I know this post is about roast but the Century Egg is so good till I must share it here. It is a must eat. It is excellent. It has a soft yolk centre and crystal clear white. This is the kind of perfect looking and tasting Century Eggs.
We tried the roast at Very Good Restaurant when we were there for dinner on a Friday night. The roast was pretty good. The roast goose meat was tender and flavourful but still not the best.

The Roast Meat at Joy Hing is extremely fatty. I suppose it is the fatty meat that the patrons are coming back for. I didn’t enjoy as I always prefer lean tender meat. In terms of flavour, pretty fine. Personally I think they could do it a little more flavourful, I find it little blend.

Roasted Goose and BBQ Pork Rice
Yat Lok Restaurant Front
The roast meat served at Yat Lok was flavourful. I like it very much. It was a pity that it was extremely salty. It would be great if they reduce the amount of salt added.

The roast goose meat, lacking of flavours, tasted very natural with not enough of marinate. Fortunately, the meat is still pretty tender

Three Treasure Rice
I pretty enjoy the food served at Maxim’s Food. I ordered the Three Treasure Rice Set. There are Sausage, Roasted Meat and Soy Chicken. The meat were tender, flavourful and the saltiness level was just right to eat it with the rice.
I was at Elements when I spotted Fairwood. It was patronised by many local so I decided to give it a try. Initially, I was a bit skeptical as it was a fast food style.
Not all items offered by Fairwood is available throughout the day. Those available, the menu will be displayed on the right of the counter. First of all, view the menu and decide what you want. Write down or remember the item or take a photo and proceed to the cashier to order.
Once you are done with your order, you will be given a slip of paper with the ordered item(s) listed. Next proceed to the collection counter on the left of the cashier. Hand the slip to the crew and once your food is try, collect, find a seat and enjoy.
I ordered a Two Types of Roasted Meat Set, roast duck with char siew (bbq pork) and there were some sausages too. There is a plate of vegetable, a bowl of soup and rice. It did not come with a drink. I ordered an additional ice milk tea. The food is pretty decent. The roasted meat were still pretty tender and not tough at all. It was flavourful. The milk tea is good as well.
Fairwood is definitely a great place for fast meal. Great delicious food and most importantly, it was fast.
