And All Things Delicious At Kampong Glam Area

And All Things Delicious, a little bakery counter for mainly takeaway. Though they have a few chairs but there isn’t any table for you to comfortably placed your food and enjoyed the pastries and cakes. They share the same shop floor with another company who has a very open workspace. So don’t mistaken the communal table as the cafe seats. Oh ya, and it is Halal, in case you are wondering.

The have limited selection each day and probably they might have different cakes and pastries per day. Their cakes are simple and unpretentious. There is no unnecessary “accessories” on their cake.

When I was there, there were about eight selections. All looks delicious. I got 4 out of the 8 available options.

My Takeaway, Top to Bottom, Left to Right: Apple Galette, Crackly Top Brownie, Carrot Cake, Sticky Toffee Pudding
My Takeaway, Top to Bottom, Left to Right: Apple Galette, Crackly Top Brownie, Carrot Cake, Sticky Toffee Pudding

My mom was excited to see the Apple Galette, a thin, flat, crumbly butter pastry base with wedges of apples laced closely to each other on the surface. We enjoyed it very much. The pastry was kinda buttery with a sweet and sourish apples.

I tried next the carrot cake while my mom went after the Crackly Top Brownie. The carrot cake was very moist. The most moist carrot cake I have ever tried. There was a very generous layer of cream cheese frosting and walnuts. It was an excellent piece of humble cake. But there is still some room for a little improvement, needed a little more spice to the cake and that would be perfect.

The Brownie  was very chocolaty and soft. and lastly, I had the Sticky Toffee Pudding. It came with a toffee sauce. I was told to warm it before serving the pudding. The pudding has a great brown sugar hint and soft texture and the best part, when eaten with the toffee sauce, I don’t find it shocking sweet. It was at a more than acceptable level.

Lemon Grass Ice Tea

Besides the cake, they offer Lemon Grass Iced Tea too. The iced tea has a lemon grass aroma. Some may find it not pungent enough but I like it the way it is. It was refreshing and sweetness was at the perfect note.

We enjoyed the cake very much. Very importantly, the price of the cake is very reasonable. You can indulgent on as much as you need. And indeed all things delicious. They do live up to their name.

Newly Re-opened Lau Pa Sat On A Saturday

As Lau Pa Sat was re-opened and I have went down a few times during weekdays and I found many new stalls and all were very exciting so I thought of bringing my Mom there on a Saturday for lunch. I anticipated that it will be pretty crowded as well but it turned out otherwise. The vibrant, the energy and the crowd did not exist but I only found a listless environment. In fact, it was very much of a disappointment as many stores were closed. I wanted to try the Japanese Yakitori & Teppan Azmaya but was not operating on the Saturday. Even those opened did not have most of the food items that were on the menu available.

After walking one round, my Mom preferred to have some local delight from Seng Kee Local Delights. She couldn’t decide whether to have the black or white carrot and it was great that they offered a combo. The combo comes only in one size, large.

My mom was pretty satisfied with her carrot cakes. She got to enjoy both. We find that the carrot cake having a nice radish sweetish fragrance, especially from the white one, while the black one has enough sweet sauce and was neither too sweet or salty. We enjoyed the carrot cakes.

Since the Japanese Yakitori and Amazaya Teppan was not available, I went for my second choice; the Turkish Cuisine.

I was keen to try either their feta bread or the Samsun Pide but both were not available on the weekend. Choices were very limited, only the Doner Kebab was available. I settled for the only available option.

I managed to take a photo of the chef in action.

The Doner Kebab was bland. The chicken was not flavourful, no taste of spice but mainly the natural chicken taste. It was a far cry from those I have tried in Dubai. They added sauces to the roll, unfortunately, it did not enhance the dish. In short, it was disappointing.

My conclusion, for anyone who wants to try out the food at Lau Pa Sat should as much as possible avoid weekends, unless that’s not possible or till the situation improved. On weekdays, avoid any between 12 pm and 1.30 pm, unless you don’t mind joining the lunch time crowd.

The Dispensary Cafe at Tiong Bahru, Simple and Sleek

The Dispensary is in Tiong Bahru, the first neighbourhood with vibrant cafe culture. There are Tiong Bahru Bakery, 40 Hands, just to name two of my favourites in Tiong Bahru. The cafe is facing the main road but there isn’t a signboard so you have to look carefully so that you won’t missed the cafe.
